Your breeds and their characteristics!

Having just re-read Cats In The Belfry for the umpteenth time, I was just wondering how many of your cats live up to their breed characteristics?

Sounds like Siamese aren't for the faint hearted!

Re: Your breeds and their characteristics!

When I was researching BSH all the stuff I read said they weren't very vocal!! Oscar is the most vocal cat I've ever owned and I have conversations with him! I know most if his sounds but must admit some do stump me lol

Apart from having a mad half hour at least once a day and howling like banshees when they're calling my girls aren't too bad at all Curiosity is their worst trait - they have to investigate any open cupboard, look in every bag or box and be 'helpful' all of the time

Re: Your breeds and their characteristics!

Minnii does a wonderful Birman huff! Very breed typical and is also loving. Coda is a typical RagaMuffin and very loving and cuddly.

Re: Your breeds and their characteristics!

Vogue one of my Siamese girl doesnt as much talk to me...but shout at me!
We do get the mad half hours where both girls race from room to room playing tag.

Lilly my young Siamese girl brings toys to me to play with her, and she carries fluffy objects like toys, custions or the even the bottom of her bed around the house.

Both girls demand attention and make sure they get it.

I am followed around the house from room to room, I cant even go the the loo without one of them trying to look in the bowl while im sat there, there really isnt a place of sanctuary in our house especially since owning Siamese cats

Re: Your breeds and their characteristics!

My Burmese are very active and also have their mad half hours, when they stage the Grand National around the house, and often end up perched precariously on the top of the doors. They can get pretty vocal as well.

They are very intelligent, know exactly how to get our attention when we are concentrating too much on the TV and not enough on them - walking along the top of the fireplace miaowing loudly so we don't miss them and swiping ornaments off as they go.

We regularly come downstairs in the morning to find EVERY cupboard door and drawer in the kitchen open, and they might well be sleeping curled up in the tablecloth cupboard, amongst all the clean table linen. They enjoy helping us unpack the shopping or the Zooplus box.

They also love snuggling up for a cuddle and sleeping down our beds.

Reading that lot I'm so pleased Birmans and Muffins are much more laid back.

Re: Your breeds and their characteristics!

Having researched BSH's a lot before I got him I think Thomas is very typical of his breed. Very laid back, unflappable, gentle when we play together but then he is still a young kitten so we have typical kitten behaviour too.

Loving this thread!

Have to admit, ever since I first read the book I've wanted a Siamese, not now, but sometime in definitely in the future!

Oscar and Rosie are both very typical of the breed as in the things you mention and Rosie is very quiet I don't hear her meow unless playing with Oscar but my god Oscar never shuts up
