cat protection charity

Everywhere I have lived I have always popped cat food and given toys at Christmas etc into the CP collection points, the ones in the supermarkets.

My cat loulou will not eat Tuna sachets and now it seems she has told my kitten Libby not to eat it either.. therefore I have bags of Tuna sachets foods monthly.
As I moved to a new area, I have asked all around the local supermarkets where the cat charity food point is.. but sadly there are none around.

I have telephoned the CP and explained that I wanted to donate food on a regular basis. I even said I was happy to do it myself and collect the food weekly from the supermarkets and If needs be I would take the food monthly to the nearest CP centre in the closest city to me... or one of their staff could collect from my home.
I explained where I lived and that it was an retirement/affluent area therefore lots of food possibly...

They said they would get back to me.... after 4 calls still nothing...

I don't want to give all this food to someone who has a pet cat, as I feel these poor cats in the CP must need some nice food and toys.. they need it more..also posting all these sachets would cost me a bomb.

Surely they are crying out for help at the CP.....

any suggestions folks????

Re: cat protection charity

Could you ask your vets whether they work with a local charity? i know my vets does and has a collection box in reception for donated items. such a shame the cpl didnt get back to you, unless the person you spoke to has gone home sick and not passed on the message.

Re: cat protection charity

I work for CP, derby adoption centre, want to post them??

On a serious note keep ringing them, sometimes these rescues are so busy with cleaning, feeding, trips to the vets and the general public coming in things slip their minds. Did you speak to a receptionist?? Did you get the name of who you were speaking to?

The same happened to me a while ago. Had two huge boxes of cat food, phoned our local CP saying that I would drop them off. Phoned, phoned again, and again and again and again and again and again (I guess you get the message now) over quite a few weeks. Nothing. So, got fed up of chasing but realised that my local P@H has got a donation box.

There is busy and there is unresponsive. This clearly was unresponsive. Well, I hope you get your set-up sorted.

Re: cat protection charity

I asked at the vets but they don't work with anyone just told me to contact CP or RSPCA!!!!!!!!

I have telephoned CP once a week for 4 weeks and every time they have taken my telephone number details etc but nothing.............

Ok so option 1 is to make a nusiance of myself until they decide to shut me up and get back to me..

OR option 2 put up a basket in the super market saying CP and do it myself.... or do I have to show I.D that I work with CP, Tashax you would know????

Re: cat protection charity

Have you googled to see if there are any small, independant rescues in your area?

I would prefer to give to a little place that REALLY cares than a big, faceless corporation who, IMO, spend too much time with their PR machines than actually getting their hands dirty at ground level.

Kelly-Joy might be able to point you in the direction of some places that would really appreciate what you are offering.

Totally agree with MB here - am sure some private rescues in the area would be snatching your hand off. Let us know how you get on.

Re: cat protection charity

You cant just set up a donation box yourself do you know wether the CP you are phoning are a branch or an adoption centre?? Before anyone asks yes they are very different things. I work at an adoption centre and at the present time we have 189 cats and kittens in the centre, they keep us extremely busy. Branches are privatly run for CP usually out of peoples home, we have 250 volunteer run branches and only 29 adoption centres.
