Re: Bullying cat!

Sorry to hear about poor Ella. She reminds me of my Sweetie, who is a small ex-barn cat & has been attacked several times by a (neutered) local ginger tom (I witnessed & broke up at least 3 fights). She has been to the vets ca 4 times for antibiotics/anti-inflammatories; and the last time we had to call the vets to us because she couldn't walk and had open wounds on her stomach. The vet shaved her tum and we could see the horrible scars of all the previous attacks also. When I spoke to the owners about their cat they just shrugged their shoulders and said 'but what can we do? He is an old cat & is in fact bullied by the local female cats' [yeah right ] I suggested that he might be 'under stress following the death of another local male cat and trying to expand his territory - maybe they should keep him in and/or ask their vet to supply a 'chill-pill'? (I was thinking Zylkene or feliway)' but all suggestions were rebuffed. My vet told me that now the tom had succeeded in 'conquering' Sweetie he was likely to continue to return to reassert his dominance. So, I bought an over-shoulder, galactic, high-pressure water gun and have managed to get him bang in the eye 3x. It did mean that I had to escort Sweetie on a night-patrol for a while so she could toilet and she is now kept in overnight (clicker trained to return so I can lock the cat-flap). Touch wood, no repeats since I imposed the curfew and gun We have also recently acquired a black lab pup which may hopefully hope to deter the b*stard!

Re: Bullying cat!

I've got the opposite problem with #1 cat Bola, who I'd always thought didn't have a aggressive bone in his body and would rushed up to greet any strangers he met..........till my neighbours arrived with their two tabby toms. Bola hated these cats on sight and goes out of his way to pick fights

These neighbours were away last summer and had someone call round to check on/feed their cats, and they'd leave a kitchen window open so they could come and go, but on at least one occasion Bola followed one of the two into the house to carry on fighting

Before this Bola would come whenever I called him, but not now, once he's in the mood for a fight nothing on earth seems to distract him, which isn't so bad if it's in my garden as I can step in, but more often it's next door and there's nobody at home during the day to stop them.

Ian

Re: Bullying cat!

water pistols are safe but unpleasant - my sisters neighbour used them to keep my sis' cats away from her bunnies, only took a week
(they spoke about it)

Re: Bullying cat!

Aww poor Ella, I hope her eye gets better soon, wishing her a speedy recovery xx

Frankie was being bullied about a year ago, there are a few cats in the area and they do come in to the back garden, I couldn't work out which one was the bully, he does like others cats and not very territorial, he would let other cats come in to eat his food, that's when we installed a microchip cat flap.

Only advice is spraying water or shooing away.

Hope you get it resolved very soon.
