Getting a Siberian cat in Russia

Hi!

I've been thinking about getting my two little kittens another companion for a while, and well I came up with an idea that I have absolutely no idea how to go about So I was wondering if any one you guys would know anything about this kind of thing.

So, my Dad works as a pilot in Russia and he partly lives there and partly in my country (which is in Europe). Do you think it'd be possible he could buy a Siberian cat there and bring it home? What is the estimate cost of a Siberian cat? How do I search for one? It seems that it would be nearly impossible to find a russian breeder that would have an english website. What kind of paperwork would the cat need so my dad would be able to bring him home by plane, and about how much would that cost (estimately)? Also is it really a good idea, wouldn't travelling terrify the kitten? I wouldn't want to traumatise a poor kitten just because I want a breed that you can't get in my country.

Well, any insight at all would be appreciated. Please understand that it really is just something that popped into my head so I would just like to get an honest opinion from you, especially if you have any experiences with getting a cat from another country.

Wow that sounds like quite a difficult idea! However, it depends where your country is! Which country are you in??

If you were in the UK, you would of course need to quarantine the cat as soon as it arrived in the country, but there will probably be different laws for your country.

Re: Getting a Siberian cat in Russia

Hi!

It is possible to bring cats from russia but it depends in which EU country you live....
It has to be microchipped (or othervise permanently marked - tatoo) and has to be vaccinated, dewormed and has to have a vet export certificate. But it also depends in which EU country you live - just check your countries requiremetns for bringing in cats/dogs from non-european countries...If you tell me which country, I can help you more.

As for finding a russian breeder...Here is one, there are more
I DO NOT KNOW the breeder and can't recomend him, I just provide you with one link
VALENVIC is cattery of the Siberian cats

Re: Getting a Siberian cat in Russia

I don't think we can really advise you on costs; costs for your country will be different to here as will rules concerning quarantine etc. Each country probably has different practices as Russia is outside the EU. I know a Siberian cat from the UK would cost about £500 and many will export (at cost)

Re: Getting a Siberian cat in Russia

Thank you for the quick answers, well I am from Slovenia. I guess I will have to check the requirements for my country specifically.

Thank you for the links! I can see how it is going to be very hard without having a guarantee for a good cattery, I certainly don't want to get a kitty from a kitten mill or something like that :/

OH yeah I didn't know the import costs depend on my country, I'll check them out, I was more thinking if anyone knows the cost of Siberian cats in Russia.

Re: Getting a Siberian cat in Russia

So from all the information I have gathered I've decided to go with it, I won't hurry with it because I have to make sure everything is set and done. Well first thing's first, I've never bought a pedigree cat before, I think I know the basics but what things should I be careful about, what questions should I ask the breeder? Most of all I'd just want my kitty to be completely disease free, especially from the genetic ones, and to have pedigree.

I live in Italy and went up to Austria to get Simba. Just thought I'd mention that I'm sure a Russky Pussky would be possible!
