Unhappy I feel like a big meany

As some of you know,I did something crazy and got another kitten on Sunday. She is currently locked in the spare room with a bed, litter, food, water and some toys (also a flannel she has taken a liking to). Keeping her separated from our resident kitten of 8months of age til she has been checked and Georgie has been spayed and we can introduce them slowly. Tinks is settling in really well and I can already see her big personality coming through. But now she is more confident in her surroundings, she is meowing a lot when we leave her. I see her as soon as I get up in the morning, before I go to work,as soon as I get in from work and at various times throughout the evening. But I don't want Georgie to feel neglected so try to give her just as much attention,if not a bit more. I know it's probably going to take a little while before we can all cwtch (Welsh cuddle) on the sofa, but I can't help feel really guilty when I hear Tinks meowing. Am I being a bit dramatic?!

Re: I feel like a big meany

It is now Tuesday evening. Any reason why that kitten hasn't already seen a vet if that is one of the reasons why they haven't been allowed to meet yet? How old is the kitten and did you get her from a reputable breeder? Does she have any vaccs?

I don't understand why it is important for your female resident cat to be spayed before she meets your new, also female cat. Sounds as though this little new kitten of yours might stay in that room for a little while.

Well, I guess congrats on your new kitten and hope the introductions will go well once they meet.

Re: I feel like a big meany

Her vet appointment is Friday morning. Not from a breeder and I don't want Georgie to get anything Tinks may have that would prevent her being spayed and microchipped. I've also had advice to do the meeting slowly over a period of time, not just throw them in together?! Unless you think I should just leave them to get on with it,even though Georgie hissed a lot when we brought Tinks home and hisses at the door? Tinks is 8weeks old.

Re: I feel like a big meany

Poor little mite, still so young. Do you know anything about her and her background? No, definitely don't let them meet before she has been vet-checked and had some vaccs. Friday morning is a long time though.

Ideally, though, you should also be washing your hands whenever you have been to see her and I guess if you were extra careful you would also change your clothes.

I am all for slow introductions if you don't know what you are doing. Don't forget that hissing and some posturing will be absolutely normal.

Re: I feel like a big meany

I'm washing my hands but not changing clothes, but I don't often pick Georgie up anyway. Unfortunately I don't know anything about the family I got her from but she seems in good health. I'm expecting hissing and I can't wait for them to meet as I think Georgie is quite inquisitive but it's a first for me to introduce cats so I am probably going to be extra cautious.

Re: I feel like a big meany

Is Georgie vaccinated? Other than that does it look like tinks has fleas?ear mites? etc. I'd get them together if she looks okay.

I'm a little less cautious than others it seems - go with what you think.

Re: I feel like a big meany

i got a cage from the vets once my 5 week newest addition was checked and given the all clear. that way she was in the livingroom, and could get used to the family without getting hurt - as well as letting my then 3.5 month old male cat get used to having her there. he would try and get to her - but to be fair she was going up to him too.

i would let them out together under my strict supervision, and they were happy to eat next to each other. i was worried sick about Freddy hurting her, but after gradually letting them out together for longer periods of time they were quite happy they are constantly play fighting now - but Tilly holds her own and there's been no injuries. phew!

3 weeks down the line and they are best friends i've attached a pic for you.
