I'm the worst person in the world! :-(

Hey guys,
I just need some advice I feel awful
Iv just found out Sheldons first booster was due 18months ago and never got done!!!!!!!
Ok so the first booster was booked as soon as i got the letter saying it was due and the date it was booked for I was away with work so my mum agreed to collect sheldon from mine while the OH was at work and take him for me.

Up until now I was under the assumption this had happened however it turns out that my mum had completely forgot to take him to the appointment.
I had come back from being away and just naturally assumed all was good and he had been vaccinated.

I realized today that sheldons 2nd booster was late (mind had been pre occupied recently with losing my old job and having to find a new one) so I called up and explained that his 2nd booster was late and they told me it would be fine just have to redo his original vaccinations so she went into his files and thats when I found out his original booster was never done!!
I spoke to the vet and she didnt seem too concerned and said we will just start him fresh as he is an indoor cat he should be fine.

I cant tell you guys how awful I feel I feel like I am not good enough to own a cat now as I have let him down by not double checking he had been taken to his booster and then by letting my work situation take over my mind and forget to get his 2nd vaccination on time (or so i thought)
Sheldon never goes outside the only times he has ever been out is when he has been taken to the vets and he went into my mums garden 5times with our supervision early last year!!!
I just I don't quiet know what I want from posting this but I just feel like the worst person in the world like I am no better then the horrible abusive people I got him off when he was a baby.

Im such a bad person.

Don't feel too bad it's happened now you cant change it just make sure you get them done now.

I'm suprised the vets didn't send you a reminder but maybe there was confusion as the appointment had been missed.

I would of asked my mum how the vet visit had gone though when i got back but thats just me. x

I wouldn't worry too much now, what's done is done and it can't be changed. Although, I'm surprised the vets didn't contact you sooner, because 18 months is a long time.

It's lucky Sheldon is an indoor cat. But don't beat yourself up about it now - as long as they are booked and done as soon as possible, the better for Sheldon.

I would suggest maybe setting a reminder to make sure you don't miss future appointments. Maybe on your phone or something?
I set a reminder on my phone on the day of the appointment and if it's the vets, an hour before the appointment too - just to be safe!

Don't let it worry you too much, you certainly aren't the worst cat mummy ever. There are plenty of theories that vaccinations shouldn't be done annually anyway. And with Sheldon being indoors the risks are so much lower.

The only reason I didnt as was because I assumed my OH who was at home while I was away had asked how it had gone

And the only way I can think of them not contacting me is that if they sent a letter which is what they normally do and because I live in a large apartment building it got put in the wrong persons letter box and they didnt re post it through my box I get other peoples mail all the time but I re post it to them

He is booked in now and will be done soon I just hope hes ok I keep looking at him thinking how could I have let this happen.

Don't be so hard on yourself - at least you found out, and now it can all be rectified, and easily. Lots of other cats wouldnt have been as lucky as Sheldon.

I once cut my cat's leg (badly enough to need vet treatment) when I was trying to trim some errant fur and he moved quickly. The vet said that at least I was trying to groom him cos some people would have left him matted.

So if there is a 'Bad Mum' club, I'll be in it too - but I bet a lot of other people have made mistakes with their cats too....
