What would you do in this situation?

This might sound a bit of a silly and strange question, and I don't really know why it came into my head, but it did.

I was just wondering - if you say had 2 kittens that were the best of friends, they ate together, played together - in fact did most things together, and lets say one of them needed to go to the vets. Well when it came to putting the kitten into his carrier, would you let the other kitten see what was happening or would you put him in a different room until you had taken the cat carrier out to the car?

If you let him see everything, then he might wonder where his little friend is going and is he coming back. On the other hand, if u don't let him see what is happening, he would spend the rest of the morning searching around the house and wondering where his little friend was.

By the way - this is just a 'what if' - I don't actually have to go the vets. Was just curious as to what others would do.

I think I'd probably take the little friend too... It's likely to be daunting for both of them, so I'd take the friend to the vets too

Re: What would you do in this situation?

i actually had this situation on Friday - Freddy hopped in the carrier, and Tilly looked at him through the gaps - i wondered if i should put her in and take her too, but then though it may do them good to have an hour apart - Freddy will be allowed out in about 4-6 weeks, so she's going to have to get used to spending a bit of time on her own sometimes.

she was fine when i got back, and Freddy hopped out and they promptly started play fighting then went to sleep

no trauma

I'd take them both together my Vet recommends taking both even if only seeing one then they don't always have a negative experience, even if they don't get prodded and poked they still get a treat.

I like the replies which suggest taking them both together.

However, if it was something such as neutering, this obviously would not be as straightforward because of having to leave one of the kittens at the vets.

to be honest i will be taking them both next time, as they are so cute together and it's good for cats to get used to car rides

If they're both the same age, chances are you'd be getting them neutered at the same time, so they'd still go together.

I've been wondering the same thing as next month I've got to take Hunter to be neutered but Willow will have to stay at home and wait for him. Dreading the separation as he cries when he can't find her round the house, she likes to hide from him as she's all black sometimes he can't even see her!!

Re: What would you do in this situation?

My 2 kittens are joined at the hip and I worried about how they willl react when I took them to be spayed and neutered separately. The weird thing was they didn't miss each other at all while they were gone but when they came back they were kissing and grooming each other and chasing each other like crazy I kind of think that cats a psychic and they just "knew" it wasn't anything serious like they knew they weren't ill or in pain.
