Brown tinge to cat's coat

My black and white cat has a very slightly brown tinge to her coat (the black fur mostly on her flanks) this last few weeks, she was temporarily on whiskas for about 2-3 weeks over the christmas but has been back on her regular high quality food for the last 2 weeks, when on this food she always had a gleaming cost with no brown tinge. How long would it normally take for changes in food to come through the coat? Or have others noticed it's just the time of year? Don't think it's as soft as it usually is either.

Re: Brown tinge to cat's coat

With animals fur I was taught.. black is of two colours.. either blue grey or brown.. I used to have a long haired cat and the ends of her fur was brown..

Sun can make black coats turn copper though it can also have a dietary component-lack of an animo acid Tyrosine which sounds very likely here. Not sure how long to revert the colour though.

Which is why feeding some seaweed powder can help with the pigmentation of dark cats. But also high in iodine so only feed sparingly! Again, also not sure, how long the darkening up would take.

Re: Brown tinge to cat's coat

Good point! Recall reading somewhere that feline diets can very often be deficient in this.
