How do you stop kittens biting cables?

I'm getting worried as one of our kittens either Leo or Susie are biting cables. I noticed yesterday that my daughters ipod touch charger cable has almost been bitten through and today my son showed me a cable that charges up his xbox mic bitten in half!!

Help I don't want the kittens to electrocute themselves

Re: How do you stop kittens biting cables?

Tin foil
Bitter Apple
Aquarium tubing (although it is a tedious process to feed it onto the cords, it works)

We've been lucky with the cats. It's the dogs that have been a problem with wires. Ragnar ruined my vacuum by biting a hole through the hose, killing the suction. Kelso has eaten through a laptop cord, nearly stopping my heart when I discovered it and costing us $130 to replace it. The laptop was less than a month old at the time. Oh and Ragnar chewed through every single speaker wire--with surround sound that makes 5 speakers--when he was teething. I think the only thing that saved the subwoofer cord was that it was really really thick and laid behind stuff so he couldn't really find it. All of these things took about two bites, so at least with cats you get to catch them before they do real damage to themselves and your stuff.

Re: How do you stop kittens biting cables?

Everytime my Sisters kittens go to bite any cables which happen to be lieing around she would spray a little bit of water near them which immadently stops them going anywhere near them now.

Cruel to be kind.

Re: How do you stop kittens biting cables?

Spray water near electrical items that might be plugged in - much as I find spraying with water isn't nice and doesn't work (if a cat wants something bad enough they will put up with water) water and electricity just don't mix!

Re: How do you stop kittens biting cables?

I found spraying bitter apple spray onto a tissue than wiping it over the cables stopped Jaffe chewing wires. Tinfoil is a very good idea unless you have a cat like mine who like to chew metal then the other options are cable insulation for the big cables i.e tv, dvd, alarm clock etc and for small ones i.e phone charger, laptop charger it's more about making sure they are out of reach when not in use. A bit of orange or lemon peel wiped over the cables is also a good alternative to bitter apple spray.

Re: How do you stop kittens biting cables?

I ended up making all my cables inaccessable when Oslo was doing it - he pretty much stopped once Odin arrived, so I'm guessing much of it was down to boredom. It also helps that they have plenty of things around that they can chew on (straws a great alternative).

Re: How do you stop kittens biting cables?

I don't have any cables/wires on show and always put the mobile phone chargers away and out of reach of Seb, he's tried to chew the laptop cable while I'm using the laptop but I'll distract him with other things and it's then put in a cupboard when we're not using it.
