Cat Help

I have a cat, well hes the family cat and i don't live at home anymore but yet.. i still class him as mine. Anyway he's lost alot of weight recently and mum has just phoned to say he's wee'd in the bathroom which had blood in and it's very rare for him to do it in the house. He's 13years old this year but he's still very active and has his mad half hours around the house, he doesn't spend much time outside due to always being bullied by this other cat so he tends to go out and do his stuff then waits to be let in again.

He was at the vet's yesterday for his yearly jabs and the vet didn't seem to comment on his weight loss but its only today that blood has been found in this wee but how long this has been in his wee, she doesn't know as he always goes outside.

Is there a sign of some sort of illness, with losing weight and blood in urine? I've told my mum to re-book him in at the vets asap just incase.

Re: Cat Help

Hi

I think the vet is going to be the best to answer - there are several things it could be. Are you able to get a urine sample to take to the vets (if not they will get one at the consult)?

Re: Cat Help

The weight loss definitely needs investigating so I'm surprised the vet didn't mention it. Also the blood in the urine sounds like a urinary infection/cystitis/bladder inflammaton which will need treatment-this can, in some instances be caused by stress - other cats - urinating indoors is another sign of urinary tract infection.

I would also have some full bloodwork run given his age ( though 13 is by now means old! ) which could give a clearer indicator of the weight loss. If appetite increased then he may well have hyperthyroidism, common in cats of his age-again this needs treatment.
