tummy tickling

Nesty never used to like his tummy being touched but now he seems to love it and often flips himself over and presents his tum and chin for rubs and tickles. Which he appears to love. I seem to remember reading somehwere that cats aren't keen on their undersides being touched but I wondered what your experiences were. Do cats like a good tickle or is my little fella in a minority?

Here's some evidence of his submissive tummy presenting....

Re: tummy tickling

Awww Nesty is very cute It's a trust thing with cats so if you are allowed to give him a belly rub that is very good indeed. Jaffe prefers you to rub his bell with your foot but he like under his forelegs and chest tickled and will actually grab hold for your hand as if to say "tickle please!!" so cute.

Re: tummy tickling

Yeah, I think he trusts us a lot more now so maybe that's it. He was a rescued back garden stray and had a few "issues" early on but he's the softest little cat I could ever imagine meeting. He also likes to grab hold of us during tickling and always looks a little disappointed when we have to stop.

Re: tummy tickling

I have read that it is kind of rare as well, but both of mine loved/loves it. Especially my late Cartman – he could spend hours on my lap getting belly-rubs. We had our own little routine about it – I miss that soo much!

Re: tummy tickling

All my lot love them, even my semi adoptee Stripey Tail, who is a large cat and hates being picked up and let me know big style the last time I tried, will happily roll over for a belly rub and play kicks.

Re: tummy tickling

My kitten will actually fall asleep upside down if you tickle her tummy. Mummy cat would rather lie upside down for a cuddle than right side up. I'm either very lucky, or I have odd cats... Saying nothing.

Re: tummy tickling

Nesty is gorgeous!! My two will both roll over for tummy tickles, especially Treacle, and Jumpy if he's in the mood! They tend to enjoy it in the evening, during their evening nap, after a hard day's play! If we come and tickle their tums when they've been relaxing for a while, they just love it!!!

Re: tummy tickling

A cats tummy/underside is a vunerable area, so by exposing it, and allowing you to tickle it Nesty is essentially saying to you "I trust you explicitly, I can allow myself to be vunerable, as I know you would never hurt me" Likewise, those cats that sleep on their backs with thier stomachs exposed know they are in a very safe place.
