Cleo

In August we adopted Cleo, she was a playmate for Archie but actually she turned out not to be playful as she had a bit of a past. She had had 7 kittens and had been found as a starving sray, she was tiny and under a year old. When we brought her back she was so unsocialised with humans that she just hid and was so nervous. However she seemed to get on with Ella and Archie and we were so happy to offer her a home.

In her safe room, Cleo was clean and never messed but after integration happened she only poo in the tray but never wee. She was still very nervous and was never going to be a lap cat and didn't like fuss or attention.

However over the six months she became more confident, followed us around everywhere . We had 6 litter trays for three cats, tried Zyklene, a cat counsellor and smothered her with love and attention. She came so far that we considered getting another playmate for Archie as he just wanted to wrestle, and neither see nor Ella were up for it.

Then about a week ago we made a discovery Cleo had starting urinating again, maybe she never stopped (our house was decorated eight weeks ago and all the carpets taken up so we found were she had been going)

We spoke to the RSPCA where I volunteer and they said that this was obviously stress as she was healthy. There had been no fighting or scrapping with Ella and Archie - her behaviour had changed so much, so we racked our brains to why this would be happening.

All the other volunteers said that we needed to think of her and not us and last Thursday I took her to our branch, They had arranged for her to go to a busier branch where cats were homed quicker and they were marvellous.

I have literrally spent the last few days crying non stop. I w ated this to be a happy ending and this little cat stole my heart from the moment we got her. I had failed as an adopter - I spent so much time tweeting for the branch and when I feed I am sad to see all these cats lose their home so no fault of their own - and here I was doing the same.

The drive to the branch was the saddest moment. She just looked and me and her poor kept coming through the carrier case. I didn't hold it together well over the last few days and if she had been at my local branch I would probably have got her back.

I had emailed the branch and offered to sponsor her whilst she was there - it was the least I could do. She was a black and white cat with some interestong markings, so she would be there a while if I didn't kidnap her first.

At 8.15 this morning I received an email, Cleo was adopted ove the weekend to a lady that had taken early retirement and was going to be at home all day. She will be an only pet.

I will never stop missing her and am devastated that the happy ending for her doesn't involve me.

I will always love you Cleo

Re: Cleo

Awwwww poor you I loved Cleo too! Your story was always so inspiring. You did your best for her but she was clearly not happy. You haven't failed her you must remember that. All you did was love her and shower her with affection.

She will do fine being the only cat in her new home.

I sometimes wonder about our cat Fluffy whether she would be happier in another home but we are hanging on... just.

Bless you and your other cats!

Ps Have you just changed your username?

Re: Cleo

I'm sorry that this is the conclusion and that Cleo can't stay with but I am glad that she hasn't had to stay in the cattery for long.

Hopefully the fact that she is in her happy home will help heal the little empty spot in your heart.

Yes, there was no 'C' in EAC anymore.

The thing is Cleo had had so much happen to her, she deserved not to be stressed

Re: Cleo

i'm so sorry to hear she was stressed

- but the fact she was picked so soon this time has to be due to your hard work in making her friendly enough to melt someone's heart. And you should feel good about that.

Re: Cleo

I am devastated - she could not have asked for more with us but looking back it was obvious she was more happy if Ella and Archie were out. I guess we have to remember cats are solitary animals! I think i will be sticking to two now!

Re: Cleo

Oh no what a nightmare for you! It really is so unfortunate that it didn't work out, as I can't imagine a more loving and supporting cat home than yours. Sometimes things are just not meant to be I guess.

I do think that you have done a lot of good for the precious little girl! So even though your home was too much commotion for her, you taught her that there are good humans out there that will love her. This will make it easier for her to settle in her new home.

Really do feel for you, as the thought of having to give up Rosie like that would kill me, even if I knew it was the best option for her.

Re: Cleo

Aww Simon, so sorry that Cleo was stressed and wasn't happy. You loved and cared for her and she wanted for nothing, she just wanted to be an only cat and that was no fault of yours. You did your very best with her in the time she was with you and all your hard work paid off and made her a friendly cat.

I'm pleased she has found a new home so quickly and that she will be the only cat, I hope she will be happy.

I can only imagine how you are feeling, but knowing Cleo will be happy I hope it helps you. (((hugs))) xx

The psyche can be very powerful. Is there any way you can keep up to date with her?
