kittens generally become sexually mature/active at 6 months old so your little tom will not be able to breed with your mummy cat.

This advice is Wrong, kittens are NOT weaned at 6weeks, no matter what anyone say, they STILL feed until 13weeks Plus, and need to learn So many lessons from mum, you neuter mum when the kittens are over 1weeks of age.
Just dont be stupid and let her out, I honestly how people find this so hard, I have calling cats, they dont escape? Should be neutered from 3 months of age anyway!! So no excuse really! dont let her out, keep mum with kittens, and neuter her when they are 13weeks of age and kittens are ready to leave.
