Well I took him to the vet this morning he is absolutely fine apparently it was the Johnson baby shampoo i used never bothered him before vet says to get him home and rinse him thoroughly with just clean warm water which i've done hopefully he should be back on the mend soon, vet gave him sensitive food for two days he's been his normal self playing and wanting food it was just now and then he was sick no runny poos or anything keep finger crossed he back 100% as before. No more johnson baby shampoo i've already bought kitten shampoo.

I feel so relieved but guilty for using baby shampoo on him I am already ordering fur ball control dry food for him and no bath for a while.

I have been told by a reliable scource, but don't know if there is medical proof regarding this, that cats CAN suffer a heart attack through be bathed.
As I say, dunno if that has been proved!

On the very rare occasions in the past, when I have had to bathe my cats, I always used Baby Shampoo. But these days, ingredients are changed so often, and stuff gets messed around with such a lot, that I wouldn't dare use anything that is not a specialised cat product.

Glad that the beautiful Samson seems to be perking up again though.

Johnsons products caused both my kids when babies to come out in rashes so they are banned from my house anyway. makes you wonder whats in them

I've used Johnsons on tiny kittens if they've had a diar rear incident and I need to get it off when they're really small, but as soon as they're big enough for a full bath, I use cat appropriate shampoo. It's just too risky not to, but by the sounds of it, if your vet is telling you to rinse him again, you didn't get all of the shampoo out the first time so he'll have ingested some of it which is causing the problems. Johnsons has never caused any problems in mine, but then, I'm almost OCD about making sure that all foreign substances are out of their coats. Really, really important to rinse, rinse, and then rinse some more until the water runs clear for minutes.

Really glad he's on the mend. You know, wet foods control hairballs quite nicely too. If you have to have dry, then the Royal Canin Persian is the best I've found for controlling it, and is still pretty much the only thing my big girl will eat, but I've found that a good quality wet diet of foods like Animonda, Bozita, Grau, Smilla etc has meant that my kitten has never had a vomitting incident linked with a hairball. Wet diets are better in general, but particularly for males as they go a long way towards stopping the formation of struvite crystals leading to urinary problems. Do you think feeding wet is something you would consider?

To the person who mentioned heart attacks when bathing cats, if this is the case, all of mine should have been dead about 100 times over. Any animal can have a heart attack if put under extreme stress, so the idea is to make bath time as stress free as possible. My kitten has a great old time chasing bubbles in the bath, and her mum actually shouts at me the whole time she's having shampoo rubbed in and the hot water isn't on her. Put the warm shower back on her again and she closes her eyes and makes that "I'm really liking the feel of this" face. So no, I don't really think that heart attacks can be linked with bathing more than they can be linked with any other type of stressful experience.
