Batty is on a distinguished road
Is this cat more like a siamese or burmese please?

I have two Tonkinese cats that I love to pieces.
Iris is super loving and hardly ever leaves my side, she greets visitors but always comes back to me, bless her. My other tonk, @, is loving at times but far more aloof.
I'm planning on getting a kitten and although I love my two both the same, I'm hoping the new one will more closely resemble Iris. Would you say that she more closely fits the siamese or burmese personality please? Or maybe I should get another tonk, I'm not sure.

She certainly fits the personality of the Burmese I have had, but individual cats do vary.

Well, as a biassed Siamese breeder, I would say that she certainly fits the Siamese trait of attaching herself to a person and being super lovey.

I don't think you can generalise with breeds having certain personalities. You will probably find examples of Iris' behaviour in all breeds. I breed siamese and orientals and 99% of them are like Iris, but there is always the odd one that is more aloof, its just their own character and personality, not their breed.

Re: Is this cat more like a siamese or burmese please?

Are they both the same age, from the same litter, same generation etc?

I have 2 Tonks my blue male is a 2nd Gen and is more burmese in his looks (because he is an early generation) but the affectionate side of him is applicable to both Siamese and Burmese.
My brown female is a 5th Gen and is neither like a burmese or siamese in looks - she is a tonk. She is cuddly when she wants and can be very aloof when she feels like it too - it is just because she is female. I have always been told if you want an affectionate cuddly cat to go for a neuter male as they are much softer in nature than the females.

I think the biggest thing is that you need to look at them as Tonks and not at more like a siamese or more like a burmese.

I think if you want another kitten then maybe you need to go and see a litter of each - Tonkinese, Burmese and Siamese and then make your judgement based on the personality of the kitten you see.

Please post some piccies of them when you get a chance, I would love to see them. xx

Re: Is this cat more like a siamese or burmese please?

I've only had Siamese and even they vary. I had two rescue girls many years ago and one was devoted to my husband the other to me. Mai Tai (current kitten) isn't too fussy who she sits with but because I'm at home most of the time she follows me about and sits with me rather than my husband. She adores my 15 year old son though and likes to sit and watch him on the computer!
If you're getting a new kitten I'd have a look at all three breeds and chose a kitten that seems right no matter which breed it is.
