Cattery Assitant!

Hi everyone!

I've been doing voluntary work with various cat rescues for the past year or so now and been finding it so rewarding, so recently applied for a full time job as a cattery assistant at a big animal sanctuary. Well I've got an interview next week for the job! It really is my dream job and I'm going nuts trying to best prepare myself for the interview! I've researched everything I can and learnt all about the sanctuary.

Just wondered if anyone has any experiene in a role like this and can give me any examples of any questions I might get asked in the interview?!

Or just any tips in general anyone can offer me would be great! What would you wear to an interview like this? I would imagine a suit might be a bit too much but obviously don't want to be too casual.

Anyway, thanks in advance for any tips! I'm really so excited, keep your fingers crossed for me.

Re: Cattery Assitant!

Good luck
I think asking why you want to work there should be an important question. They may also ask things like what you would do in a given situation or what the sanctuary's policies are on certain things like euthanasia and how you feel about it. I've never done anything like it myself or even interviewed anyone but that's the sort of things I'd be asking.

Re: Cattery Assitant!

I was always told that interviewers like people who ask questions as it means they have prepared for the interview and are interested.

So see what things about the big cats interest you but are not mentioned on their web-site and ask about them.

Re what to wear. I have always believed that you attend an interview fully suited & booted regardless of the position and the attire that would normally be worn. You want to create a good impression and by arriving looking smart you will show that you have a professional attitude and good attention to detail. Exactly what is needed when looking after big fur-babies.

Wishing you LOADS and LOADS of luck. It sounds like a truly fantastic job and I confess that I will be HUGELY envious of you WHEN you get it.

Everything crossed for you.

Re: Cattery Assitant!

Thanks everyone for the best wishes and advice! I think I'll wear a smart jumper-dress with a blazer and smart boots. I'll be more comfortable in that than a full button up blouse and I think I'll look polished and presentable but not too stuffy.

I've just realised by writing "large animal sanctuary", I've made it sound like I'm working with lions and tigers! I just meant that the animal sanctuary was a very big place with lots of stray/neglected animals needing homes. Just regular furbabies at this cattery! Although working with big cats would be amazing!

I've armed myself with a small list of questions to ask to show interest. Eek! I can't wait for next week now.
