Any tips to stop door scratching?

My two are reasonably good in the night but just recently have developed a habit of jumping on the bed and pouncing on feet between about 6 and 7 am.I don't bother about it much in the week as it's time to be getting up for work then anyway but at the weekend it would be nice to sleep a little longer without this happening! I have closed the bedroom door and put a big cushion at the front of the door but they (well one of them!) simply jumps on top of that and scratches the door.

Anyone got any tips to help prevent this?

Re: Any tips to stop door scratching?

Not really other than shutting them down stairs so they can't get to your room, but if they are anything like mine and you have carpet they will just shred the carpet

Re: Any tips to stop door scratching?

I have a door scratcher so have resorted to ear plugs
Max usually starts about 6 ish way too early to get up. I find them uncomfortable so don't normally pop them in until early hours. I ignored him for a few weeks but being a determined little thing he has continued to scratch.

Yes,Ingrid is very determined although I think she's doing it a little less since I put the cushion there and so on.It's not only being woken up,I don't really want damage to the door either!

Re: Any tips to stop door scratching?

Someone on this forum suggested double sided sticky tape when I complained that my Gucci scratched the sofa a lot. I put the tape on the sofa and she stopped scratching it. Maybe it would work for the door !?

Even though Max scratches the door he hasn't marked it?? I think he just brushes it with the tip of his claws!!
I love him to bits but can't get up at 6am every day

Re: Any tips to stop door scratching?

Oscar has ruined every door in my house! He doesn't open a door with his paw like a normal cat would he uses his teeth! I've never known a cat like him for opening doors that way!
Sorry I can't help with your question

Re: Any tips to stop door scratching?

The only way I found to stop door scratching - leave the door open!

They wake me up at stupid o'clock for a weekend - I drag myself out of bed in zombie mode, give them breakfast then go back to bed

Very handy when I have to get up in the week though

Yes,it is weird,it's the same with Ingrid-although the noise it makes when she does it I keep thinking sooner or later surely it will damage it !
