Question Kitten keeps weeing indoors... Please Help!!!

Hi,

We have a 5 month old kitten, she is absolutely gorgeous....

Except, she keeps weeing in the house, she has just walked in the kitchen and squatted to pee, my wife picked her up to put her outside but she literally emptied her bladder on the kitchen floor. She has done it on the kids beds, our bed, and god knows where else... She has complete access to outside and will go out and do her business most of the time.. We have tried the get off type of sprays and nothing seems to stop her. Litter was down and she didn't use it after one or 2 times, even when it was fresh she would still pee on the floor.

We have another 7 year old who has never been a problem, however the kitten just seems to do it every so often, it's not all the time as I have watched her go out and do it outside, I watched her this morning.. I don't know what else to do, we have put food (after cleaning the offending area) down and that stops her for that bit of the house. The spray seems to work for a short while but then she does it again..

Please can someone advise me of any ideas etc to help, the vets have given her the all clear.. We are desperate but with 3 kids in the house it will soon become a health issue and she will have to go, the last thing we want as she is the friendliest loving cat we have ever owned..

Thanks for any advise, and look forward to your replies...

Re: Kitten keeps weeing indoors... Please Help!!!

at 5 months she's too young really to be going outside - she's quite possibly had a scare out there and is worried about going out/getting bullied

has she got access to a litter tray indoors? give her an indoor alternative and keep her in until around 10 month minimum as she'll then have time to get big enough and confident enough to deal with anything she may face outside - also with the weather being yucky at the moment as a baby she'll *really* feel it and be easy spooked by wind/rain etc

She could also be coming up to her first season and the peeing everywhere may also be her starting to scent mark 'her' territory - so spaying may help

Have you got a litter tray?
It may well be she does not want to go outside at some times... She may be scared of having to pass by your other cat, or maybe there is a cat outside or a strange sound or smell spooking her...
Offer her an indoor litter tray as an alternative.

Have you tried a feliway diffuser?
I have a cat that wees in the house, but only when the feliway is empty. In fact, her weeing is a signal for us to check on the feliway.
Feliway contains cat feromones that make them feel comfortable and safe. It is a godsent for nervous and timid cats.

I feel your pain lol, I had the same prob, the lime spray works but it has to be constant so in that sense its useless for normal people that might forget. If she has a clean tray and a spay and still does it then its prolly behavioural like mine. Thinking the house is theres lol.

She does have access to a litter tray but doesn't seem to want to use it, we have tried different litters etc.. I know she is a bit young, however as soon as she is six months she is booked in for neutering.. She doesn't have to go outside though she chooses to and goes through the flap..

I do appreciate your quick responses, it makes me feel human at least..

Will try the plug, but honestly she is a hyper purring little thing well big thing actually she is going to be a monster... (x Bengal with White paws)

I would definitely not let her out until she is spayed - too much of a risk.

You may need an additional litter tray - especially if your other cat may use the original one. If it is an open tray try a covered tray. She is definitely trying to tell you something in her own way. You could try Cat Attract (or Kitten Attract litter) it is a bit expensive but you may only need the one bag to kickstart her into using the litter tray again.

Re: Kitten keeps weeing indoors... Please Help!!!

As already said she is way to young to be going outside, especially as she is not spayed. If she were to be calling and was caught by the neighbourhood tom she could end up pregnant and in a seriously bad way ,at her age she would struggle to give birth and look after a litter. Please just encourage her to use a tray and keep her in until spayed and at least 10/12 months old.

Re: Kitten keeps weeing indoors... Please Help!!!

Did you find any solution? My two 4.5 month old Bengal kittens know where the litter tray is and use it most of the time, but once a week (ish) decide to wee somewhere random - behind the study door, under the stairs (only 10 feet from the litter tray!). I don't know if this is just part of the learning process....
