Another happy ending

RE the little grey and white cat I've been posting about in this thread
Advice re stray kitten

I've just had a phone call from someone who'd been told about the cat found ad I'd left at the local pet stall on our indoor market, she came up and it was their cat He'd wandered further than I'd thought, about 3/4 of a mile, but is now (reluctantly) reunited with his real owners, I say reluctantly as he wanted nothing to do with her and after legging it upstairs he put up one hell of a struggle when I tried, and finally succeeded, in getting him into the carrier I've lent her.

He's got a daft name, Tilly, mainly because they thought he was she when they got him as a kitten and the name has stuck. Amazingly for his size he's around 2yo I'll miss the little fog horn but it wouldn't surprise me if he made his way back the next time he's let out, and if he does, his owner said I can keep him if I want. She did say they were going to try and keep him as a house cat, with a bit of luck it'll work out tho' I can't see it myself tbh, he's got too much of a taste of the outside, but I hope I'm wrong and he settles down now he's back at his real home.

Re: Another happy ending

If he isn't neutered, he will be roaming far and wide again very soon.
3/4 mile is not at all far for an entire tom......

So hopefully he will be coming your way again, and you can have him neutered.

Sounds to me like he would be better off with you TBH.
I cant imagine having one of mine go missing, then telling whoever found them they could keep them if they came back

True, it isn't far, but further than I thought as everything pointed to his home being on the next road, a few seconds away for a cat. This is the second time he's ended up in my garden, the first was back in September which coincided with another of his disappearing acts. He knows his way here so you may well be right.

I can't really afford another cat, but I wouldn't be broken hearted if he did return.

That had crossed my mind tbh, but as she said her young son was really missing him it's perhaps best he went home. He's definitely their cat, she described his colourings and size pretty much exactly when she phoned.

I think part of the reason for her saying that was how happy he obviously was here. plus his lack of reaction on seeing her again, not counting the manic scratching when she picked him up..............and soon put down again. He'll need to be kept in for some time now he's back home, if they don't keep him as a house cat that is, tho' I can see him being really miserable if that's the case.

I'll make a point about having him neutered and chipped (as it's not expensive) when she (hopefully) brings the carrier back today and throw a suggestion in for a quick release collar with some form of ID as the latter would have helped me notify them he'd been found much sooner.

I missed his nose biting greeting this morning when I woke, but I certainly didn't miss him arguing at silly o'clock with my semi adoptee, Stripey Tail.

Re: Another happy ending

Keeping him in didn't last long as he turned up today at 5pm, asked for something to eat then rubbed noses with #1 cat, Bola, before going back out after my semi adoptee, Stripey Tail, wandered in. They're both full toms and don't get on at all, so it was no real surprise to see the visitor leave.

I don't like the idea of him wandering like this, tho' it's not far from his home to here for a full tom, without some form of ID on a collar.

I still haven't got the carrier back, tho' if she's working perhaps won't be home just yet, which would explain the lateness of the phone call yesterday, but I've just got a feeling I'll see him again before the carrier.

I'm baffled at him being out again so soon, her concern yesterday was obviously genuine, unless he's kicked up such a fuss at being kept in someone at home gave in, or maybe he's just escaped.

Very true, the number of cats who have found their way to my garden/back door over the years is mind boggling. Even those who have probably never seen a flap before seem to instinctively know how to use mine, either that or #1 cat, Bola, has given them instructions

There's also a scruffy old jet black tom (who I suspect is a stray) that I often find curled up waiting for food in the dining room. He's got a real anti human attitude problem tho', all I get is a *back off* hiss when I approach and I have to let go of any food I give pretty sharpish to avoid a good clawing. He had a go at me last Saturday afternoon and his intent was obvious, to hurt me.
