Should we be worried?

Our cat Joey mamnaged to get access to a box of locusts last night and ate one before we heard what he was up to. He is fully grown (almost 2) and ate breakfast ok this morning.
Are locusts big enough to cause any damage to him?

Re: Should we be worried?

Goodness, how come you have a box of locusts at home? Lol!. In any case, unlness they are the brightly coloured posinonous ones, I don't think there will be a problem. My cat eats a brown locust almost every night when I take him for a walk. It is awful to watch and the crunching noise is terrible, but it does not seem to do him any harm at all.

Yes, but seldom the really horrible ones like mole crickets or cockroaches. They seem to only go for the cute ones like crickets and moths.

Re: Should we be worried?

Thanks for your replies. I got back from work this evening and he was ravenous as per usual so I guess no harm done.

@KK Our daughter has a bearded dragon in her room and she feeds it live locusts which we (well, the mrs) buy in a see through box from the pet shop. Of course the sight of big bugs leaping about is irresistable to the cats so we have to hide the bugs. However, and it was gonna happen sooner or later, our daughter left her bedroom door open and the bugs on the floor so Joey bashed the box around the bedroom, accross the landing and down the stairs before it bust open an one escaped into the jaws of a relieved cat.
No harm done but a few piles of sawdust and some locust legs strewn about.

Re: Should we be worried?

No, don't worry. Some American peeps I know often get locusts or crickets for their cats. They let them loose in the bathtub; they do it because it would be part of their cats' natural diet as well as exercising their hunting abilities.
