Concerned....
Hi Al,
I am a little concerned about one of my cat's eating habit. It hardly seems to eat at all. Be it cat food or milk. Its very little in one sitting. But from his behavior it does not seem that it is hungry. Its jumps around, plays with the other kitten, fights, runs around and all the stuff a kitten is supposed to do. |

some cats like to graze all day some eat it all in one go, my cat eats all day and doesn't eat a lot in one go, you need to monitor how much it's eating in 24 hours over the next couple of days so then you will 100% no it's intake and then you can make an educated decision what to do. |

Re: Concerned....
Changing the menu is an option. She is 2 months old. What do i feed her? She hates milk (don't know why!!), she hates Whiskas cat food (has it only when hungry)! I have noticed that it likes to be fed by hand! Don't blame her... She was with her mom only two days ago. So i got a dropper and with that i fed her milk. Baby feeding bottle did not work as they chewed off the nipple in the first sitting!
![]() The other one is a week younger, and is a little hassle free! She drinks milk on her own. She drinks little, maybe around 15ml to 20ml at a time, but drinks many times. Plays around, takes a sip then plays around again! Right now, i prepared a mix of a little over cooked rice with milk sweetened with a little sugar and this is the first time i saw her eat something more than 20 gms in one go, hand fed of course! Man... their nibbles are so small, hand feeding them is tiring! ![]() |

Re: Concerned....
Do not feed cow milk to kittens, or to any cats, ever!!! It is too different from cat milk, they cannot digest it, and will get the runs.
There is special kitten milk, but its own mother's milk is best. 2 months is very young to be taken from its mother, too young, 12 weeks is the minimum, really. It is quite possible your kitten was used to still drink with its mother and only used to eat little bits of cat food on the side. Not all kittens are fully weaned at 8 or 9 weeks. And I think it is very lost and lonely without its mother. I got Gaudi when he was about 13 or 14 weeks, and he was still drinking with his mother whenever he got the chance. It was more like snacking, he did eat kitten food, but he still enjoyed the milk bar very much.

Re: Concerned....
They both do not have a name yet. Still thinking about that!
![]() Well from last night onwards i monitored it and i guess it does eat. I had to stay up a little late for it. Unfortunately the owner wanted to let go of 5 kittens as soon as possible. They already have 11. The new litter was becoming a problem. So i took two of them. Is cat's milk available in the market? Cow's milk is the only option readily available! They both are getting used to the new life. The younger one has already adjusted herself. Do cats take time to get used to human beings?? Last edited by hellstorm2004; 10-01-2012 at 05:43 AM.. |
