There I was, having been up until the small hours working hard, I got to bed at 4am, told the wife "don't wake me at 7, let me sleep in a bit", which she duly did.

Now, our dog has slept with us since he was a pup, he never did get used to the idea of being alone at night, his first plaintive howl was his last and ever since then he's shared every inch of our living space. He's a great guy though, never put a foot wrong in 11 years, he gets to sleep on my side of the bed so putting me at risk of DVT but I give him a ton of latitude because he's earned it by being a friend for life, and I forgive him the occasional flea bite.

Our BBSH kitten though, she's only been with us 2 months. I'm head over heels though, she's wormed her way into my heart in a big way mainly because she's like a dog, a dog with the cunning of a.....cat? She follows me literally everywhere, if I leave a room she's tripping me up in her haste to get where I'm going before me. I think basically I'm her God, and everyone else can go to hell as far as she's concerned - she was a birthday present for the wife - awkward!

So I wake up feeling odd, sixth sense I guess. Nobody's in the room and I can hear my wife downstairs twittering to the animals, "eat your dinner Dougs", "Florence no! That's Doug's, your's is here!" etc. I feel wet, really wet...is it my own slobber? No surely not, it's on my chest...hang on, there's loads of it and the duvet's soaked!! Is it a leak? Have I wet the bed? OMG! Hang on.............

The cat has peed on me. Now, I think it was because we have recently let her sleep with us despite our landing having a big sheer drop to the floor below, only because, well, we love her. So we started to take our chances and let her in, but shutting the door so she can't get on that landing, and so far it's been okay. Not because she won't sleep alone, she's a pro at that honestly. But she's also a pro at being the most beautiful, luxuriously lush and fluffy plush toy on four legs, a teddy bear with the brightest and most expressive amber eyes one can imagine, so it's tough.

Yeah. So my cat, my lovely friend took a great big wee on me while I was in bed. Now she's back to sleeping alone, and I have a new nickname for her that's not really for consumption on a family orientated site like this. But I still love her, and actually the weak link in the chain is me, for thinking that a 4 month old cat can go 8 hours without access to a litter tray.

I'm sorry that made me giggle at the end - I thought it was going to end up a tirade against the cat and then you turned it round on yourself. Well done.

I suppose you don't want a litter tray n the bedroom?

I think wee need to see pictures of this gorgeous (and horribly maltreated girl that was made to go 8 hours without a pee!!!!) - British Blue eh?? Sounds gorgeous!

Oh very good Just for that, here's Miss Wee Boots in the fur so to speak. I have an image of the whole scene, me snoring away, the cat on my chest doing her usual nonchalant and ladylike squat routine, staring into the middle distance that is my unsuspecting sleeping face:
