blood in urine, what to do?

Hi all

I came home earlier, and Little Miss Messi who is 1.5 years old have been whiny although I couldn't detect any obvious problems. Was giving her lots of cuddles and attention. Normally she'll happily lie on my lap but earlier, she didn't stay on my lap long before wandering off. Just found that she'd pee'd twice in a short time into a cardboard box which she loves to sleep in, and there appear to be specks of fresh blood. She's never wee'd anywhere else apart from her litter tray.

Not sure what to do, please help as worried.

Thanks

Take her to the vet - sounds like a UTI.

Could be cystis,my Dora hs suffered from this. Straining so hard for a pee she started passing a small amount of blood. Get puss to the vets for treatment.

Also a good idea to invest in a good cat carrier. You never know when you might need it... as in now

Re: blood in urine, what to do?

Yep, def above, i go along the lines of if it were me in this position, id want to see a doctor for myself, so i apply the same rule to our cats - so definately a vet.

Hobbs mentioned about a carrier, is there a cp/rspca near you. We bought our two from the cp when we got our two cats, they were in really good condition and we only paid £5 for each of them.

Hopefully you've got her to the vets by now, let us know how she is x

Re: blood in urine, what to do?

Hello everyone!

Thank you for all the advise. We managed to get an appointment with the vets first thing the next morning, after noticing the symptoms the night before. Didn't have time to buy or borrow a carrier, so we 'made' one up Blue Peter style within minutes, and put her in an amazon box with scattered holes big enough she could stick her paws out! It was a very wet morning, but I was so proud of Little Miss Messi! We know she loves her boxes anyway, but she didn't struggle, and actually just sat in the box, poking her nose out of the hole every so often.

She was very good at the vets. Vet gave her an inti-inflammatory injection, and 10 capsules of glucosamine, but no antibiotics. Says to give her just wet food for now instead of dry food as well. Says to come back if she's no better after the weekend.

Fortunately she improved on the day, even before we gave her the first capsule. Maybe it's the injection that helped? She stopped weeing every few minutes now, and is as cheeky as she's ever been. She also stopped whining. She had her first capsule yesterday evening.

So, it's all good! Panic over! Thank you everyone!
