How will my cat feel about having a dog in the household.

Thinking of getting a dog, Bedlington Terrier so not too big, but am unsure as to how he`ll react. He`s a 2 year old british shorthair. We`ve had him from a kitten and he`s been well raised. He`s very affectionate and seems to get on with our neighbours dogs but will he be ok sharing the house with a canine companion, would he welcome a playmate?
