keeping used syringes.

I have 2 syringes that I used for giving water to my cat when she was poorly.
I wondered instead of throwing them away do you think I could sterlise them by popping them in boiling water and then put them away in the animal first aid kit in case we ever need to use them again.

Re: keeping used syringes.

Yep they will be fine I keep loads in my teaspoon section of the cutlery draw I do throw some of them away in the end when they get a bit stiff but I used them to give cough medicine to my dog, water if needed to poorly cats or lactalose etc they great to have and yes you can steralise them either in boiling water or with a Milton tablet

Re: keeping used syringes.

I keep them, I sterilise them and then seal in a plastic bag, if I need to use on I will sterilise it again

I do buy them new from ebay though and they come sealed which obviously would be cleaner if you wanted one for an emergency, they usually cost less than £3 with postage for 10

We get through a lot in this house as we have lots of chickens which seem very accident prone!

Re: keeping used syringes.

I have re-used syringes in the past and have a bunch in the first-aid drawer. Although they are cheap enough to buy, I hate to be without any in the event of an emergency.

Re: keeping used syringes.

Another YES from me, and another user of Milton to sterilise. Yes they are cheap, but it helps to have one right on hand as soon as you need it and not to have to order online then wait for delivery!
I also keep a set of Mikki kitten feeding 'syringes' on hand which I used a lot with both Paddy and Nellie when they were very ill towards the end.

Re: keeping used syringes.

I, like Radar, also have chickens that need stuff syringed in them from time to time, so I keep them in my "pet cupboard" where I have all manner of medical supplies for my feline and avian friends

Re: keeping used syringes.

I've got a handful in the cutlery drawer as well, like others I think it's good to have them handy. I just gave mine a spray with Clean 'n' Safe

Re: keeping used syringes.

If it's just for food and measuring meds etc then give them a clean and they will be fine. They are cheap as chips though, whenever I place an order with vet uk etc I always add a couple of different sizes, the 2ml and 5ml ones I usually use for measuring are only something like 6p and 10p each.

Re: keeping used syringes.

I've kept mine for the Guinea Pigs.

I clean/sterilise them if they have had meds before using them again. A syringe full of really weak blackcurrant squash or really watered down cranberry juice makes them go mad, it's a good insentive for them to open their gob so i can see their teeth without getting bitten.
