Fleas

Hi

Im not sure but i think my cats may have fleas! Siggy keeps scratching himself and has cut his head quite a bit from scratching and he is constantly grooming and charging round like a mad cat and now George has started scratching and grooming a lot more too. I have used spot on on them but this hasnt changed anything and i have sprayed my house a couple of times and i have tried the flea spray for cats (never again this made my cats very ill!!!) but they still seem the same and im not sure whether it is fleas or what. Any suggestions?

I have bough the tablets but not sure how im going to get them to eat them yet but its driving me mad and probably driving them mad even more i feel so sorry for them but i thought if it was fleas then any of these may have gotten rid of them. I also have lots of specks of blood all over which i think is a common sign of flea eggs i just want rid of them as im not a dirty person and i dont have a dirty house so just want them gone if it is them

Re: Fleas

It can take a few cycles of the treatments to get rid of the fleas, you'll need to treat both the cats and your house as they lay eggs everywhere and then obviously hatch out again and it starts all over again.

Is the spot on stuff a vet prescribed one or the stuff you can pick up cheaply from the pet shop/ supermarket?

if it's the 2nd then you really need to get a good dose of the Frontline or equivalent for them.

Have you seen any fleas?? if not it may be worth getting the vets to doa quick check to make sure.

Hi thats the thing none of us have actually seen any fleas and yes the spot on was from the supermarket and pet shop, i have done a few doses on both of them and sprrayed our house a couple of times. Is it worth me trying the frontline stuff or just taking them to the vets?

Its just that i read that the fleas may leave specks of blood around your house which we keep seeing.

Thansk for your help x

Re: Fleas

I dont use flea drops they gave Tabby a reaction tablets made her sick so I got a flea zapper off amazon its fantastic you just comb them with the comb i've not even got a flea collar, the comb just zapps the flea on contact, so stops the scratching right-away, when I first got it I thought it would be useless but its really good I would not be without it I use it on both the cats, they just sit or lie there and let us do it, so they must have come to the conclusion it stops their itching

Re: Fleas

If it was fleas and the spoton you were using was working you'd have seen some by now in regular grooming spots etc. I'd say to get them some frontline from the vets and wash all soft furnishings and flea spary the house (be prepared to do this as a routine until you have it under control)
We had the same problem with Alfie... being an indoor cat we stupidly thought he couldn't get fleas... but he did. He's been scratching for a while before we actually saw a flea and then felt guilty! I went straight to our vets and picked him up some frontline combo and then via the pet shop to get a household spray called RIP fleas.

Took about 3 cycles(you notice a diffence in the scratching quite quickly)before we saw we'd got rid of them and now he regulary has the treatment to keep them away
