Hamish wants out

We were hoping He somehow might not be interested in gettin out- how wrong-, He watches when Indie goes on his daily outings, sits at the window looking at him and all The birdies and all The new things.

Now Hamish is going mad scratching at the back door and windows. Is there anything we can do to, or do we let him out.

He doesnt want "out" he wants to be with Indie. If you stopped him from going in the lounge when he knew Indie was in there then he would want to go.The truth is,he is way to young to be going out,so I dont think you have a choice here,IMO no you dont let him out,not for a long time .The only other option you have is to cat proof your garden or keep Indie in,not easy but much better than a squished kitten.Sorry if I sound blunt but you did ask.

When Oscar does it I usually try to distract him so he forgets! I must admit he really has adjusted well to indoor life for a cat that loved being out!

Yes buffie your right. We will just have to persist, not easy. I could make a big pen for him, but that would seem pointless as Indie has free run of the garden.

He,s very clever, where Indie goes he follows and knows The sound when that door is open. The morning is the worst, He goes nuts.

Can't you keep them both in?

To be fair Indie has not been going out as much since we got the wee one, maybe the weather or a combination of both. But he has his routine and does the toilet outside, So we can,t really stop this for Indie now.

We are just gonna have to be extra careful from now on.

Re: Hamish wants out

Is there any way you can cat proof your garden?
I understand if not, because I cant do mine so the only solution is a cat run, and only when I actually put them in it, so no free access

What does he do overnight, does he never use a litter tray.I would be looking to try to keep him in or attach a run to the house so that they are both kept safe,at least until Hamish is much older,I would worry too much that Hamish escaped unnoticed.

To be fair, it will only take Hamish 2 seconds to slip out of the door.

I see from some of your posts on previous threads, you plan on having a cat run built? Until such time, can't Indie use a litter tray and not go out thus alleviating the attraction and the high risk to a young kitten being allowed outdoors?

I'm quite confused by this whole thread because on a previous thread you say you would not let a cat out unless it were 100% safe : Recently spayed kitten. How long before I let her out?

BTW, no outdoor cats can be assumed to a) remain in the garden; b) be 100% safe.
buffie and Kat1703 like this.

We always intended to let Indie out. I did try to fence our garden off so to contain him, but its a very large garden and he managed to get where he wanted.

The reason why we want to keep Hamish as indoor cat is because he,s way too small and there are a lot of dangers outside.

I post on here for advice, I know the problem I have. We have two cats one who goes outside and one who,s a 5 month old kitten we don't want to go out.

Whats confusing about that.
