Question More questions from me, sorry!

Hi,

I'm here again to ask some more advice, sorry to be a pain in the bum but we're very new to this!

I'm worried our four month old kittens are really hungry, they've been dewormed but seem to be always looking fed. At the moment they get half a tin of wet kitten food in the morning between two of them, then a tin at dinner time, and another half a tin at about 9pm. So that's a tin and a half a day. At the suggestion of another forum member I also put out a handful of dry food this morning for them to eat throughout the day, but they ate it all in one sitting before I left for work!

Should I fill their bowl with dry food or will they try to eat it all? I'm worried that they won't know when to stop and will eat too much and be sick! Is a tin and a half of wet food enough for a four year old kitten?

Thanks in advance for your help!

S xo

when 2 of my cats were kittens they didn't like wet and so they had dry down 24/7. said on the food the needed a certain amount per day for their age. so i weighed it out in 2 bowls and let them eat it. they never ate it all.

Young kittens appetites do increase from time to time, if they are building up for a growth spurt. They eat more then shoot up almost over night. Their growth rate is so rapid, you can not really over feed a kitten, so if they are hungry and are eating everything you give them, then try a bit more - better a good quality wet though than dry. I love kittens who eat you out of house and home, nice and healthy

Re: More questions from me, sorry!

Hi! I would check the meat and water content of the wet food. Some pet foods are very high in water and have very little real meat. It could explain why your kittens seem so hungry.

My kitten is nearly five months old. She has two pouches of Felix Kitten (100g each) plus a handful of kitten complete dry food per day that I mix in with the wet food. She only eats a little at a time and goes back for some more every so often. But being an only child (lol) she doesn't have to wolf it down to get her share.

That's really reassuring, they really are growing like mad and they constantly chase eachother around the house so it would be normal for them to want a bit more food. I've just gave them another tin and filled their second bowl with dry food, they demolished the wet food and are currently nibbling through the dry food. Hopefully that will fill them a little!

Thanks for your help!

Re: More questions from me, sorry!

I think we're getting somewhere today! I put out a tin each this morning to see if they would eat it all and the two little mites wolfed it all down in one sitting! I also left some dry nibbles out and they had some of them and there's some left for during the day.

Feel a lot happier now that their littles tums are full for the day until they get fed at dinner time, hopefully they'll have a nice lazy day until we get home from work.

Thanks everyone for all your advice xo
