4 month old v 7 month old BSH?
What are the differences in expected maturity levels?
Along with all the usual differences in personality and colour etc, will a 7 month old kitten be noticeably more mature than a 4 month old? I have never had kittens before and I have a choice between kittens of the above ages? I am thinking the older boy is more likely to be calmer! Am I kidding myself? What age are spraying problems more likely to become apparent? Ie is 7 months old too late to prevent problems? I neutered my spaniels at 6 months and they have (thankfully) never learnt to cock their legs saving my plant pots and washing lines! Btw I intend to neuter ASAP. What signs should I be looking for in a kitten? Ideally I want a calm(er) natured one as I recognise it is better for my personality type (I am a little OCD and stressy) and I guess I want a cuddly type rather than high maintenance. Finally how long would you continue to feed the breeders food for? I don't wan't to introduce too many things at once. I intend to feed Natures instinct eventually. |

Re: 4 month old v 7 month old BSH?
the 4 month old will actually SEEM calmer to begin with as they sleep more at that age - cats go through teenage hood around 6-12 months - reaching sexual maturity (for boys) around 8/9 months. SO with neither should you have problems with spraying. We don't really see much difference in actual maturity with Coda since we got her (4months) to now (7 months) - she can be a little more insistent now as she knows her mind but a 4 month old will eventually be 7 months.
As you want a cuddle bug I would really go and see them both and choose on personality - choose the one that greets you when you walk in the room and comes for a cuddle on your lap. The age at this point is irrelevant. You also want a confident cat to deal with the Springers. by the way - what happened to the little black and white stray? (that was you wasn't it?) Give the cat a couple of weeks to settle in before you start changing the food - then if you are going over to NI - I'd do it all in one go - don't bother mixing.

Re: 4 month old v 7 month old BSH?
Yes. We have seen no sign of her at all, not round the patch or anything. After seeing her for weeks on end, come rain / shine and howling gales..nothing! The food I put out has stopped being eaten (except by spaniels) and although I have asked about no one seems to know anything. I hope beyond hope she has been found as I don't like to consider the alternatives.
If she reappears I will continue where I left off with her. The boys are both supposed to be very affectionate. I am going to see them on Friday. One is very similar to Jo-pop's Thomas the other is a bigger cream boy who has been shown and loved it.We are at home at the minute and my Mother, the voice of reason has remembered she promised she'd buy me a BSH when I moved out. I moved out at 18 but had moggies so this is the first opportunity. I found these boys by chance and it turns out they are about 3 miles from where my sister lives! |

Not going to wait for a blue then? Just out of curiosity who is the breeder?

Re: 4 month old v 7 month old BSH?
Just let your heart tell you who is right. That's what I did.
![]() as for them being calmer at 7 months, perhaps but not much in it. It's still down to their individual personality. Ask the breeder open questions about their character. If you're OCD and stressy make sure you are going to be ok with furniture scratches, fluff during moult time (im told there is A LOT) and also having a litter tray bring used 24/7.
