Cat advice needed .

My sister has phoned me today to ask what she should do .
her friend come round last week and was folowed there by a small black cat . he was walking for about 20 min so quite far from where he first seen this cat .
Now the cat is sat in my sister back garden and is crying to get in she has given it some food and water in her outhouse but shes not an animal person and has asked me what to do as she feels bad for it as its so friendley .
She has asked her friend to put up a post near to where she started to folow him but nothing yet .
she has also phoned rescues but unless its unwell or hurt they are full .

What would you advise she dose ?

Re: Cat advice needed .

Maybe the friend will take him/her in....
After all, (s)he followed him for 20 minutes, so it is him (s)he feels attracted to.

If neither of you wants him, your friend had best take him back to where he first spotted him and ask around in that area. But do take a good pic of the cat and start talking to people in the streets, and ring at some doors. Maybe someone will recognize him.
And do ask the children in that area. They are most likely to know where a cat comes from, children pay much more attention to animals than most adults.

But if you cannot find the owner, or someone else who will take him, there is only two options....

You (or your sister or your friend) leave him where he is now, or dump him where he came from and hope he will find his way home (an option that will not earn you many brownie points, and will weigh heavily on your conscience), or consider him a homeless Christmas Kitty and one of you offers him a good home.

And if, after a while, you feel a cat is not for you, you could still try to rehome him. But a cat grows on you, I know many people who told me they were absolutely not a cat person, but are now happily enslaved by a cat, and wouldn't want to be free of them for the world....

For all you know, the story of the Christmas Cat by Efner Tudor Holmes is about to repeat itself....

'It is Christmas Eve. An abandoned gray cat shivers alone in the cold, snowy forest. In a nearby farmhouse, a young boy worries that Santa Claus might not be able to come in such bad weather. But soon the bitter wind stops howling, and the sound of sleigh bells rings clearly through the woods. Neither the cat nor the boy knows it, but a small Christmas miracle is about to occur. '

If the cat is friendly and seems healthy there's a good chance that he/she may have escaped or gotten lost, you state they're small so could well be a youngster too. The first thing I would do is take them to the nearest vet and ask if they can scan them for a microchip.

Re: Cat advice needed .

I would be happy to take him in but my 2 dogs and 2 old cats would be most unimpresed ( i also have 9 hens that dont like cats to much and chase them off )
My sister is rubbish with pets and i wouldnt like her to keep it full time but i have sent food up for him / her while a home is being found .
I have asked her to get her friend to ask about to find where it did belong to .
it is quite young still and just lost its kitten looks so im hoping its not a throw out after the kids got bored .
Im off tomorow so will go down to see her and see if i can help .
I wont let her take it back and just dump it to try to find its way home it may get very cold at night if it dosnt find its way home .
I think it will have to stay put for now with food and at least a dry bed and ill make a poster up for the area it started to follow .

Any vet should be able to check for a chip. Hope the little one gets home soon. May also be worth ringing round some of the vets in the area as the owner may have already sent them a lost cat poster

Re: Cat advice needed .

If you do not get any luck finding the family of this little thing, may I suggest you get your sister to read this thread:

advice please...

This person was in EXACTLY the same situation as your sister...... It is a VERY inspiring read....
