Is she lonely?

Just wondered if anyone has any tips for us. We adopted 2 tiny kittens, sisters, about 18 months ago. They got on well, played together and chased each other most days although they no longer slept together. Last week we sadly had to have one put to sleep after she couldn't breathe due to a heart problem she was born with and for which there was no cure. (We are very sad). Her sister is now on her own and has been quite clingy and talkative. It is obviously early days and we all have to grieve for our little one, but we wonder in the future if a) should we get another cat to keep her company. b) if so a little kitten or a slightly older kitten. Or c) 2 kittens. We know there is no guarantee that she will get on with any other cats/kittens and maybe we are just wanting to get another cat for our own benefit and our little one would rather be on her own. What do you all think. Thanks for listening.

Re: Is she lonely?

I am so sorry you have lost your little one, I know how devistated I would be.

In answer to your question, If it were me!!! then yes I would in time get another kitten as your little one knows what fun it is to have company... I would get a younger kitten who will learn from your existing kitten...

kittens love to play and this has stopped for your own youngster who must be so confused....

Meanwhile spoil your little one rotten. x

keep us dated. x

Re: Is she lonely?

I suspect your cat is still grieveing the loss of her sister and that could take a while for her to come round. I would give her time before introducing another member to the family.
I know what it was like When Rebel died and Abby took a while before she accepted it. We had to reassure her constantly by playing and talking plus giving her cuddles.

Re: Is she lonely?

Many thanks for your kind thoughts and advice. Her name was Callie and we didnt know until just before she died that she was so ill so it came as a great shock. Her sister is a dark tortie and white called Gem and we are playing with her more and giving her lots of cuddles. We just hope that if we do decide to go ahead in the future and get another kitten(s) that we are not being selfish and that Gem will not feel too pushed out. We will have to read all the threads on introducing a new cat that kind people have posted. What we really want is to have our Callie back. Anyway will let you know what we decide and how we get on.
