Stray Kittens - Help needed!

I have taken in and 2 stray kittens that someone i know found in her garden, I think the mum is ferral. I'm not sure how old they are i'd guess about 8 weeks ish, they are eating and drinking fine and are getting used to me. I am planning on possibly keeping 1 and rehoming the other to someone within my family.

I need to take them to have them checked out by a vet for worms, flea's etc and make sure they are healthy, i have rung round a few places to see if anyone can help me out with the cost but unfortunately noone is interested in helping!

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions on who i could contact to help me getting these kittens sorted out??

Thanks
Nicola

Re: Stray Kittens - Help needed!

Thanks, I have called them already and they have said that they can't help me financially! I've also phoned my local vets and they can't help either!

Yes, Try your local PSDA. They should help out.

Re: Stray Kittens - Help needed!

None of the pet charities will help with a cash donation or flea/worm treatment or food etc we have been there. The PDSA will check the cat over but will not give flea treatment you have to buy it from them. And you do have to be registered with them and only if you are recieving housing benifit and can prove it. We rescue cats and do carboots to help raise funds for feeding and care etc. I am taking in a cat and 4, 4 week old kittens on wednesday morning and i posted a wanted on my local freecycle to ask for cat/kitten food and litter donations. I have had a lot of replys already we didnt need litter trays, bowls, toys etc as we already have them for our other 7 cats.

I hope you get sorted out whatever you do. Good luck.

Re: Stray Kittens - Help needed!

I feel for you. I found a ferel in my garden about 3 weeks ago. Had her checked by vet recently and she is around 12 weeks. She is coming on brilliantly and I'm very attached to her.

As for the costs I could have done without it really. I already have 6 mnth female that I'd just paid for a Spaying. I thought for a while thats all I need to pay out. But this little thing just came along and I do feel its MY responsibilty for taking the very best of care of her. Initially its not cheap. Vaccs are £27 for 1st course and then another £27 3 weeks later. Nuetering needs to be done at a round 5 1/2 months. There is worming and fleaing which I guess varies from vet to vet. But once you get these over with then the annual costs are really very reasonable compared with the love and entertainment you will get back from your kitties.

HOWEVER - I can go without a few luxuries. If you take these on then their health is paramount. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Re: Stray Kittens - Help needed!

Well done on you for rescuing the 2 kittens
Sadly the charities won't help, because they most likely think you are trying it on to get free treatment,(not that you are) sadly there are many who would do this. They would take the kittens off your hands, but thats it. In their eyes, if you are going to keep a kitten, then you are financially responsable for it.
Welcome to the forum too

Re: Stray Kittens - Help needed!

Thanks for all your help.
I am starting to get attached to the pair of them now, unless i find a home in the next day or so i can see me keeping them both!
They are very playful just a bit timid when you hold them. I will take them to the vets and see if i can get some discount maybe its worth a try!
Would any of you cat experts know whether i would be better keeping the 2 for company for eachother or is onecat quite happy on its own?
Thanks
Nicola
