Indoor Cat

Is it possible to gently encourage a cat that is not used to going outside to sample the delights of outdoor life. The cat in question is a 2 year old female.

Re: Indoor Cat

if the cat has been inside since birth it may distress them, are they showing signs to want to go out?? maybe if you put them on a lead and walk them round the garden they may be ok,

Re: Indoor Cat

Yes in theory. Depends on her personality as well. If she is nervous she may not take to the outside and want to stay indoors. Also its cold outside (brrrrrr).

Make sure she is neutered though.

Why do you want her to go out? Have you risk assessed the dangers, like busy roads, gangs of disconsolate teenagers, dogs?

Why would you feel it is boring, if she has plenty of toys scratch post love and attention, then she is perfectly ok to stay inside, seems a bit odd that after 2years of being a house cat you would think that, unless she is showing signs of trying to get out? and you have to think of the dangers? and its now a busy time out there with xmas coming so close,

Re: Indoor Cat

OK. I assume then that she may be on her own for periods of the day? Have you thought of getting a companion for her (another cat?).

Kitten may not be ideal if you are not around. Therefore a cat about the same age? You can re-home from the Cat protection league or if she is a particular breed i.e. pedigree you could do searches for breeders wanting to re-home.

If you spend time playing, they get plenty of stimulation and strengthen your bond with her. A nervous, scared cat is most likely to make the wrong decisions(due to panic) and end up in trouble.
