Post-op food?

Our Fluffy went to the vets this morning to be spayed, bless her! I'm going to pick her up soon, thinking of nipping out beforehand to get something for her to eat tonight. I know the vets say something very plain and only a small portion. I'm thinking some tinned tuna in brine, but will this be too rich for her? Do you think i'm best just sticking with plain grilled chicken?

Many thanks,
Rose

Re: Post-op food?

Much as you want to treat her - either stick with the food she is used to or stick with plain boiled chicken otherwise she might get the runs - tuna in brine can't be good either - too much salt, go for tuna in spring water if you need to feed it.

Thanks, boiled chicken it will be! Will have to save the tuna for a christmas/new year treat when she's recovering a bit more. (She goes absolutely CRAZY for tuna, she loves it! )

Re: Post-op food?

I have yet to meet the cat who eats 'moderately' after their 'visit' to the vets. ALL of mine have hoovered up everything in sight!!!!

Merson recommends his own personal favourite of a sugared ring donut.

Re: Post-op food?

The vet gave me 2 tins of prescription Diet food yesterday maybe you'll get some off yours...Sasha has eaten but may do her some chicken later...Vet told me small light meals for 3 days pro op. Hope Fluffy went on ok with her op. Lots of TLC will be needed too if shes anything like sasha xx

Re: Post-op food?

Vets always tell you to feed something easy like chicken or fish.

I fed mine about 1/3 of their "normal" evening meal. If they keep it down, I give them another third. If they keep that down, I'll feed them the final third, all within the space of a couple of hours of them coming home.

The next day I feed them as normal. Works for me, works for them.

One didn't like the fish I bought them so I didn't bother again.
