Advice and info needed from persian owners/lovers

Ok so Foster cat has arrived Ruby now yes she has been on the street for a month so hair matted and dirty, but she has got a runny nose and some form of eye infection now i have been told that the eye problem is common in persians so i was given some basic eye drops but the poor thing sounds like she can't breathe through her nose, now is this because they have so much fur up against it or does she have a cold?
not sure will be taking her to the vet for a check up but wanted to see if anyone knew a bit about persians and could give any info or tips

Thank you in advance x

Re: Advice and info needed from persian owners/lovers

I don't know much but I do know that if she has a flat-faced persian appearance, then her breathing is likely to be more raspy than if she has a full-face appearance.

However, with having a runny/weepy eye, she could also have a cold which will make her snuffly.

Poor wee thing. Give her big snuggs from us dudes at the Towers.

And have some yourself for taking her in and looking after her.

Re: Advice and info needed from persian owners/lovers

I know Persians with very flat faces can have problems with breathing but I think it defiantly sounds like she has a virus or infection

Defiantly needs to go to the vet and keep her well away from your own until you know what your dealing with or you could have all your cats and other foster cats down with the same

Re: Advice and info needed from persian owners/lovers

sounds as though she needs to see vets, poor baby. Oska my cp boy due to taking steroids for another problem has a low immune system. He keeps on getting flare ups of snotty noses/eyes. He gets AB and a pinch of bisolvon powder on his food to clear it. At such times I stick him in his wire carrier and cover it with some towels to make a tent and put a bowl of boiling water with some olbas oil in it outside of the carrier. I've also put some oil on a hanky and tied it round his neck before.

hope that helps and she's feeling better soon x

Re: Advice and info needed from persian owners/lovers

one thing that could help her just overnight is take her into the bathroom and run a hot bath/shower and give her a half hour 'steam'

cool her down again slowly and make sure whatever room she's in is nice and warm overnight

steaming works for cats with the snuffles just like us by helping them clear their airways and breathe easily
