My Vet

I just wanted to say that my vet is great!

I have had 2 appointments that were just meant to be with the nurse and he came in to see my kitties anyway.

The first was when Holly had her second jabs - the nurse couldnt hear her heart murmer and Steve came in to double check and spent a good 10 minutes listening then said 'I am really tying but I just cant hear it, its gone'

The second time was today when they had their post-op check. I was telling the nurse how much the girls hated the collars - Willow had her leg stuck through it once, Holly has done it twice, as well as managing to remove it twice

She found a ComfyCollar for Willow (a blowup thingy) but that was the smallest size and too big for Holly, so she tried to 'pad out' Hollys lampshade and it didnt work.

So Steve came in to check their wounds (all healing fabulously) and then he went to see if they did any collars smaller than the ones we had - they didnt! So he had a long talk with me about what to watch for, and told me to leave them off, and he didnt like them anyway (he gave me 2 new ones to use if they worried their stitches) - and the girls have been so much happier tonight without them

Also he has never lectured me on feeding - when he asked me what I fed them (at a previous appt) I told him it was wet and mainly AC and Bozita, and that I fed them because of the high meat content and no grains. I told him I also had Orijen down for them to graze on when I was working, for the same reasons. He was interested and wrote the names down so he could look them up as he had never heard of them.

He has told me they are good weights for their age, but if they werent big breeds they would be overweight - but made sure I knew they were ideal for their breed (which I knew anyway )

I think the only funny look he has given me is when I told him I had baby scales and weighed them every week But then he covered it up by telling that was a great idea as he would probably only weigh them once a year so I could tell him if there was a gradual loss or gain - but I still caught that 'heres another crazy cat lady' look on his face

Re: My Vet

We're on the market for a new vet, so I hope and pray I can find one like yours.

Re: My Vet

He sounds wonderful - is he married??

Seriously, why don't you suggest he reads the diet bible:

Your Cat: Simple New Secrets to a Longer, Stronger Life: Amazon.co.uk: Elizabeth M. Hodgkins: Books

It sounds like he really is open to "new ideas" (ie different to Hills), he must have seen a ton of the diet related illnesses discussed in the book.

Re: My Vet

Ah Mcwillow it's great when you have a vet that you can Trust.
We are very lucky too. We have had our vet for about 25 years ( I'm showing my age now)
He works on his own.
The last couple of years he has reduced his hours by having a day off in the week. So we know he is getting ready for retirement.
We will miss him so much when he does retire.
I am dreading finding a new vet You hear some dreadful stories.

Last year when I took Chloe for the first time when i looked at the receipt at the bottom he had typed "What a pretty little Kitten".

Glad to hear your 3 little monkeys are all ok

They were all neutered on Friday Ingrid, its a bigger op for the girls and he did them on their tummies because he didnt want to risk their fur coming in differently if he shaved their sides. He told me they were so pretty he didnt want to risk it in case I wanted to show them

Tiny incisions too, they only have 2 stitches each
