Re: good foods for putting weight on....

high protein high fat food - my fried's Tilly is on Porta 21 grain free dry and Smilla wet and she's barely lost any weight whilst feeding her 5 kittens

whatever dry food she's on, mix with boiling water so it turns to porridge and smells nice, serve when it's cooled to 'warm' -makes it more appetising

also try offering full fat goats milk as a suppliment, lots of fats, calcium and protein

Re: good foods for putting weight on....

What food is she usually on?

I am no expert at all on this so can only say what I would do. If it was me id be hesitant to change any of her food or add anything she doesn't normally have. I wouldn't want to risk her getting an upset tummy as that would make her feel very drained right now. I'd just feed her as much food as she wants.
But as I say, I am no expert, just my thoughts. Others here may know more.

What about some sardines? They're pretty fatty.

Re: good foods for putting weight on....

Can't help with the kitten/ vet question but when Oscar came home after 2 weeks in intensive care and had lost all his body fat ( he was literally skin and bone) I fed him solely on fresh cooked chicken and salmon! With the odd pouch so he didn't get fed up and he soon piled weight on he is now by far bigger than before his accident because he still has fresh chicken and salmon at least 2 days out of a week

I was also told to feed warm by the vet to encourage him to eat!

Try adding some boiled-but-slightly cooled water to her food as the heat will help to enhance the smell of it.

I do this with ALL my feeds as it ensures that they are consuming extra fluids.

If you get her sardines / pilchards - give them a quick couple of seconds in the microwave to warm them up. It'll make them more smelly for her.
