Poor cat
Hey alll. Just hoping for some advice and thoughts on this sad situation really. Someone I know of has this cat, she's around 2-3 years old and is now spayed. She had one litter, one of the kittens is mine, my oldest, Miley. Now the owners of this cat (Missy) no longer want her, no idea why, she's a pretty and loving little thing, but they have taken to just leaving her outside, and not letting her indoors anymore, theyve put up statuses on FB asking does anyone want her etc, but have locked her out without finding her a home! Some of the neighbours feed her, and let her have some warmth most nights but im worried about her. Every inch of me wants this cat, but because shes outdoors, and mine are indoors only im afraid of the consequences
Also with 3 cats already im a little worried than mine wont like her, or she wont like mine. Also worried because shes outdoors, has she picked up something? She looks healthy, but i dont want to take her on with the risk of her already having an illness and i dont have enough money this side of xmas to get her looked at by the vet I'm worried because of all this bad weather theyre forecasting i really dont want her out 24.7 in it Unsure of what to do really ![]() |

Re: Poor cat
If she is being neglected, chances are she will accept an indoor life. One of mine simply cannot be an indoor cat, but she is semi-feral whereas I assume Missy is a real house cat. Most cats need some time to adjust, but will be able to live as indoor cats.
And when you have a new cat, (s)he needs to stay indoors for at least 6 to 8 weeks, anyway, to really learn to consider his/her new home as 'home'. If Missy's vaccinations are up to date, there is little chance she has anything worse than worms or fleas (and only if the worm and flea treatment is not up to date). But even so, if your cats' vaccination, worm and flea treatment are up to date, I don't see any grave danger, though you might have to deflea and deworm the whole bunch again to make sure. As for introductions, if you do it right, most cats will learn to accept each other, though it will often take some time and patience. There is a thread here about introducing a new cat, where you can find all the information you need. I would say: if you can afford to have another cat, and if you really want her, go for it. The poor thing is having a horrible time, living rough in this cold weather. She will probably worship the ground you walk on for getting her out of the cold.

Four cats is a better dynamic than 3... just saying...

Re: Poor cat
Oh poor little soul.
We have 3 cats already but if I was in the same situation I would take her in and keep her warm and fed, until maybe find a forever home. The cats protection might help you out. I just couldn't leave her out in the cold it would make me cry to think her so cold and un loved. if you keep her seperate from your other cats and do a very gradual introduction you might be fine then i suppose you will fall in love with her then won't want to part with her. Good on you for caring. As for the people that have dumped her I hope they have a rotten xmas ![]()

Re: Poor cat
The problem is mine havent been vaccinated yet ... i was going to get them all done together after xmas
and neither has Missy ... im scared of her having something and passing it on. But as i say, she looks and seems healthy ... eyes are clear, as is her nose, havent got close enough to look at her ears though. The poor baby sits outside her ex owners house all day, and doesnt wander far from there. My mother lives on that estate and she follows my mother home from the shops etc ... my mother would love to keep her but she has a bird and a lurcher who is loving, but doesnt get on with cats If i wasnt thinking of my babies i wouldnt hesitate in keeping her. I've integraed cats before, Miley was almost a year old before i got the 2 boys. I'm just worried as its another girl. God i wish it was an easy decision. |
