Pet sitter for one day - am I being weird/neurotic?

My other half and I won't be at home this Thrusday from 10am until potentially after midnight and I've arranged for a pet sitter to come over late afternoon/early evening to feed our two five month old kittens, scoop the litter tray and spend a bit of time with them in the afternoon to break up the day a bit for them (they are indoor kitties).

Anyway - this was met with much laughter and hilarity when I mentioned it to some colleagues at work!

Is this a strange thing to do?!

I don't think it's strange at all! I take it your colleagues aren't animal people?

They like animals - possibly not as much as I do though! They said 'it's just a day, surely they'll cope, just give them extra when you come back.' I just think it's a v long time to leave two young ones alone when they don't actually know when they'll get food again!

Glad it's not just me! Was being looked at like I'd grown another head!

Re: Pet sitter for one day - am I being weird/neurotic?

Not in the least bit strange, it is a good idea, with young kittens, to have someone to check on them. I'm lucky to have a step-daughter living nearby to do such things though my two are old enough to be left on their own for a while now.

Re: Pet sitter for one day - am I being weird/neurotic?

Yes, if they were adults and on dry food perhaps it would be OK. They are fed wet food three times a day at the moment though and need to be monitored as Basil tries to eat all of Sybil's food so I'm trying to get a bit more weight on her so seemed like the only sensible option! Have been told I'm obsessing too much (granted, we only got the kittens a few weeks ago so am feeling a bit over-protective!)

I wouldn't be able to have a good evening if I was worrying about them the whole time

Re: Pet sitter for one day - am I being weird/neurotic?

Not strange at all , very responsible in my opinion I certainly wouldn't leave my adult cats or kittens for that long without someone checking in on them

It's your friends who are weird !! Get rid of them !!
