If I am trimming the cats claws alone I get them nice and relaxed by stroking them (which is great for me anyway). Then I stroke their paws, and slowly push down on each pad and trim them before they are even aware of it. Well, they are aware, but just don't mind as they are so comfortable.

If I trim them when Duncan is around, he will hold each cat in turn and the trimming is quicker.

Either way, they get treats afterwards.
Always associate it with a calm relaxing time and a treat and Leo won't mind it as much.
