Cat litter

What cat litter do you use? I've been using either catsan or clumping clay, today someone told me that clay can be bad for cats. Have you heard anything about it?

Re: Cat litter

I believe the dust from clay litter can cause respiratory problems and also other digestive problems as cats lick their paws - I use Oko Plus, a biodegradable, clumping litter made from plant fibre.

Oko Plus Cat Litter all the way, I brought a 30l bag £20 on the 16 October and still have half . It does track but they all do , some more than others , I was buying wood, and paper but that was costing me more than £10 in 3 weeks

Re: Cat litter

Lots of votes for oko plus. One of the reasons I got most concerned about the clay is that Xito gets a strange cough every now and then. I wonder if oko plus will be too dusty and make it worst.

Is the cats best nature gold less dusty? He's a Siamese, sticking to long hair is not a problem.

Spid, how long do you think a 10L bag would last for just one cat?

Re: Cat litter

Goodness - I have 3 cats so a bit difficult to answer. I bought 3 bags of Gold on the 18th September - I have two trays - but I know the cats 'go' in the run sometimes too. I still have 1 unopened bag left. So 2 bags lasted 3 months easily with (lets say 2 cats for ease) so for one cats it could last up to 3 months. On average though I tend to say 6 weeks. It does get dusty towards changing time but if you have it deep enough (and it needs to be deep to work best) the dust stays at the bottom. I wouldn't say the gold is less dusty about the same really. It does track but we have tracker mats and it's no worse than any other pellet based litter we have used, even chick crumbs tracked. If you have short haired cats I'd go with Oko plus as it's cheaper.

I only have one cat , I don't get any dust , 10L should last 5-6 weeks . One of the main advantages for me is that I can put it down the loo to :-D
