Real food as treats?

Hey all, I was just wondering really what people feed their pets as treats and if any what are actually human foods?

I work in a shop and of my customers that comes in feeds her cat our frozen mussell meat (obv. defrosted), others feed the boneless fish e.g salmon, kippers etc

But me being the worrier I am don't often deviate from cat food lol ... they've had the odd tin of tuna, scrap of ham, turkey n chicken etc ... but one of mine has a sensitive tum so I really have to be careful.

Anyways, sorry for rambling a bit, just wondering whats deemed safe for them to eat

Thanks,
Amy.

Re: Real food as treats?

MIne don't really get treats - they are fed very high quality tinned food or in the case of the kitten raw meat.

Re: Real food as treats?

Mine have tuna on their birthdays.

They like the webbox treats.

Snoopy likes chinese curry and chips...we don't give them as treats obviously she will just go mad and fetch it out of the bin.

They will have a small christmas dinner each...spoilt I know

Re: Real food as treats?

I sometimes give:

scrambled egg (no salt)
raw quail
raw rabbit
raw sprats
ham (low salt/rinsed)
raw quail eggs
goats milk

Gypsy adores frozen peas - weird cat! but she's only ever allowed 1-2 at a time

all the treats are fed in tiny amounts and not daily

Re: Real food as treats?

The only real food I give them as treats is tuna from a tin (with spring water drained out) and I defrost prawns and dice them up small and sprinkle over normal cat food.

This is a very occasional treat though.

I like the sound of the mussels.

Re: Real food as treats?

I don't routinely give "human" food treats but occasionally I have given tiny pieces of ham or the odd raw prawn - plus the occasional tin of "human" fish.

But mine are terrible thieves - they steal porridge, cheese, rice, jacket potato skins etc etc. Oscar has a really sensitive stomach so we have to be really careful what we leave lying around

Re: Real food as treats?

Thanks for the replies all I might invest in a bag of prawns or the mussell meat for them for xmas ... just wanted them to have a treat , only small cos theyve all been on diets for a few months, and seem to be doing well with it ... they're all so spoiled

Does anyone know if any cooked turkey bones would be ok for them to eat or not? I've read that chicken bones splinter, and i'm a bit ocd so can't deal with them eating raw ... i wish i could give it a go but i just cant deal with the thought

Or does anyone know of anything raw ish that wont make a mess lol?

Re: Real food as treats?

DOn't feed ANY cooked bones - it's the cooking process that makes them brittle NOT the animal it is from.

NI minces are fairly self contained - all you do it dish it up into their bowls just like tinned food - mine make less of a mess with the raw than the tinned!
