Adopting Mum and 4 Kittens

We have a Mummy cat and 4, 4 week old kittens arriving on wednesday the owner is in and out of hospital and can no longer take care of them. It is her sister who has asked us to take them in as she is not allowed them in her accomadation. The kittens will be ready for weaning when they arrive. The lady we spoke to knows absolutely nothing about animals so does not know what to do as far as weaning is concerned.
I will be getting a bed ready over the weekend for the feline family in a warm quiet corner.

When the kittens are old enough i will be placing a classified adds on here to find them thier forever home's. We don't know what type of cats they are yet because the lady does'nt know a moggy from a monkey lol I will get some piccie's when the family arrives.

Pics would be great!

Do you have any history on the mum? How old? and is she up to date with her injections? Also, when she's recovered it would be best to get her spayed and health-checked.

Re: Adopting Mum and 4 Kittens

We dont know much about mum yet only that she is just under 1yr old
We have plans to spay her before she leaves for her new home. We dont know as yet what condition mum or the kittens are in. I know we are going to have a busy week because our Sammie and Milly are booked in to be spayed and nuetured on monday morning. Mum and kittens will be arriving at 10am wednesday morning. I'm getting quite excited about meeting them and taking care of such young babies. It has been about 12yrs since i last had a litter of kittens in the house.

Well, you will certainly have an interesting xmas
I think it is great that you can do this. I would fear getting too attached to them personally and not being able to let them go.

Its sounds odd to others but for me it will be the best xmas ever being surrounded by so many cats. with my 7 + mum and her 4 babies that will make 12 kitties in the house Heaven!

You can bet i will get very attached but hubby will put his foot down and insist they go. We rescue cats and pay for food etc out our own pocket + carboots when the weather is permitting. lol The lady is bringing what food and litter they have left so that will help. And just this morning i got my free sample of felix kitten food. they sent 3 pouches so that has been put away ready for the new arrivals.

It is so nice of you to do that,
I would love to be able to do something like that as there are so many poor kitties out there. xx

Re: Adopting Mum and 4 Kittens

Nice to hear you're taking them on xx

remember to keep them away from your other cats until kittens have had their 9 week jabs - it will also be easier for mum as trying to introduce her to new cats while she has kittens could stress her alot xx

you know where we all are if you need us for any advice though xx

Thank you for the offer of advise hunni. I wont be afraid to ask if i need to.

I have a nice place planned already under the stairs it is quiet and warm for mum and babies. I am off up stairs shortly to sort some old bedding out.
I have just been across to my local discount warehouse and got a huge box to use as a nesting box wich will keep the kittens contained but mum will still be able to get out to use the litter tray and have a break, food, water etc.

My lot are used to frequent new comers so don't even bat an eyelid.
It normally takes around 1 - 2 weeks for the growling and hissing to subside. There is very rarely big fights. My cats spend all day in the kitchen/dining room with me so i can close the door to keep them seperate. I have a spare litter tray i can place on the hall for mum.

I was just thinking i will have 12 cats ranging in age from the oldest at 10yrs almost 11yrs then 9yrs, 8yrs, 3yrs, 2yrs, 1yr, 7 months, 5 months and 4 at 4 weeks lol
From the very young to the very old.

You can bet i will want to name them all hehehehe.
