Re: Thoughts anyone, - does my cat have OCD/depression?

Don't get too down beat if things don't improve instantly on the food, one study I read found that only something like 30% of cats that were found to be suffering from a food allergy had shown any improvement after 4 weeks on an elimination diet. This rose to about 85-90% after 12 weeks.

Re: Thoughts anyone, - does my cat have OCD/depression?

thanks guys, theres a small improvment - but to my amazement a flea jumped off her and on to me,still alive, so shes had a advocate spot on treatment,

doing the whole house again tonight, is it worth given her a wash in something, she'll hate it but ill be gentle with her - any recommeneded products out there by way of some kind of shampoo?

thanks all

Give the advocate a chance to work - otherwise you might wash it off. I wouldn't bother washing her though - most fleas live in the house and just jump onto an animal to feed. So even if you bathe her it won't stop them jumping back onto her. Treat the house and keep up the advocate monthly.

Re: Thoughts anyone, - does my cat have OCD/depression?

Hi

My dog has a terrible flea allergy only takes 1 bite and he is literally eating himself alive!!

When I brought the 2 kittens in they had fleas and despite keeping them seperate and advocating them straight away it took me a few weeks to get the dog right and the house flea free again!!!

They no longer die of in winter like they used to good central heating fancy carpeting and quality curtains are the perfect breeding ground.

If it were my cat I think I would be inclined to put her back on food that she likes I know with Reg (my dog) he is miserable as hell when he has a flare up and to try and feed him food he wasnt keen on would just agrevate him further.

Which spray are using for the house? I use the Indorex when I need to and also monthly flea treatment for the Dog and weekly combing for the kittens. Touchwood we are all ok here at the minute, bet Ive just jinxed myself!!

She looks adorable such a lovely colour

Re: Thoughts anyone, - does my cat have OCD/depression?

I found that adding Evening primrose Oil and/or Salmon Oil into the cat's diet as a supplement helped to soothe itchy skin. Just a couple of drops a day is plenty, added to food if they will accept it or I used to give it to Nellie in a teaspoon of Creme fraiche which she could not resist!

Re: Thoughts anyone, - does my cat have OCD/depression?

So happy she is better...
It may hav been a combinaton of things, maybe lea allergy and food allergy.
She may suffer from atopia, a non-specific form of allergy, where she may be oversensitive to something without producing antibodies, so when her condition is better, she suddenly isn't allergic to it. The trigger of an atopic reaction may also vary fromm time to time. And the oversensitivity, in turn, will cause stress......

So, now that her condition is better, she will probably be less oversensitive and less stressed.
So keep up the flea treatment, the healthy food and the feliway evaporator, and hopefully she will never look back.
