tree safety

for those of you that have fairly tall cat trees, do you have a mat or rug or anything underneath it incase they fall?

we got our first tree for them this afternoon, and have been watching them play on it, buy the top section is quite high and im concerned they could hurt themselves if they fell (we have wood flooring)
do any of you have any experience of this, am i being over cautious or is it something i should be wary of? the highest point is roughly 3 1/2 feet high

Re: tree safety

NO we put our tree in the conservatory to be safe! Archie has tried to topple it a few times!

Re: tree safety

There has been some very bad/sad experiences of cat/kittens falling off trees. If you are worried about the height then I would take the top section off until they are bigger. A non slip mat or rug underneath would definitely cushion them if they do fall but just make sure they are supervised while they are using it if you are worried.

Re: tree safety

I have to be honest and say that I'm a wimp.I'm not happy with high tree's and hard floors. If you are worried about your hard flooring ,is it possible to put a rug or something similar under the tree.3 and a half feet is not terribly high but an awkward landing on to a hard floor could be dangerous.

Re: tree safety

this is what i though! i mean it isnt really that high but if the were to land awkwardly or fall on their backs they could really be hurt, especially if they are playing on it together as they can be quite rough and push each other around abit

id rather be safe than sorry i think

Re: tree safety

My parents cat broke it's leg after an awkward fall from a computer desk so not high and was a young adult cat. Luckily he was fine in the end but I do worry about them sometimes
