cats noses - info needed please

Ok, so with a healthy dog, its nose is wet and cold,- anyone have any ideas with cats.

Jet is off his food at moment, am putting it down to introducing quality food and trying to cut the cr$p out of their diets. Ive just put down a felix foil and a tin of tescos finestvshredded chicken and liver and a dish of biscuits, when he has scoffed

His eyes are bright and clear and his coat is in fab shiny and smooth and good condition, hes not lethargic at all but sitting quietly, but when chasing his feather stick hes leaping all four paws off the floor trying like mad to catch it.

I think im just worrying for nothing and hes wrapping me round his paw - any thoughts

Shadow was the same when I tried to do the same. I gave up and let him have his old food back again.
I think you just have to keep an eye on Jet but he`s probable okay but just being stubborn

Re: cats noses - info needed please

As far as I can recall, a cat's nose might be dry or wet - it's not a big pointer one way or the other of a cat's health. However, if it's wet and there's lots of discharge, then that needs to be looked at.

Re: cats noses - info needed please

Ooh I can clarify this one earlier this year Oscar had an eye problem after his booster, I think it gave him a bit of a cold, anyway the vet did tell me that unlike dogs who have a wet nose, a cats should be dry! However Oscar does sometimes still have a wet nose and no other signs of anything wrong ?

Re: cats noses - info needed please

I think it depends. I have noticed that cats lick their noses a lot, especially if they are thinking about something. So sometimes the noses are wet and sometimes they are dry.

Re: cats noses - info needed please

It's generally regarded that a healthy cats nose should be moist and cool however I think it's a poor indicator really. In my experience a healthy cats nose will sometimes be damp, sometimes dry, sometimes warm and sometimes cool. I assume that as with their ears the feel adjusts as their body regulates its temperature.

If it was excessively wet i.e running then that could indicate a potential infection likewise it it were very dry and hot for an extended period accompanied with hot ears and paws this may suggest a fever.
