Unhappy my cat has been pooping everywhere for 2 weeks now. HELP!

i recently rescued 2 persian cats a month ago. They are my first pets and i admit i am having a hard time. but i swear i am doing everything i can to be a home to them. i am so much attached to them already.

a friend owns both of them but since he moved out of the country last year, he left it with his cousin who never took care of them. so i decided to take them. when i went to my friend's cousin's house, you can just imagine how dirty and disgusting the cats' cage was. the odour was awful, the cats were super dirty and their fur was matted. it was so bad that the white female persian cat has to lose all of her fur when i took her to the groomer. the groomer said they can't brush it anymore and the only way to save it is to shave it.

i took them 2 weeks ago to the vet because their poop is really soft and moist and they poop 3-5 times a day. after 14 days of medication, the female is now ok but the male blue persian cat is not getting any better. and he started pooping almost everywhere!

is it possible that he doesn't like his litter? but he poops there sometimes. the worst part is, when i arrive home after a long 18-hour job, i see his poop on the floor, on the sink and on some rugs. like he poops 6-9 times a day now! I am a busy person and i am feeling hopeless now that i am thinking of giving them away. i don't know what to do anymore. HELP?

How many litter trays do you have? If you are out for 18 hours and he is pooping that many times a day it could be that the litter is dirty to him so he is going elsewhere...

Re: my cat has been pooping everywhere for 2 weeks now. HELP!

I think if my cat was pooping that many times a day I would 1) look at what I was feeding him! and 2) take him back to the vet to be checked over again.

Re: my cat has been pooping everywhere for 2 weeks now. HELP!

THAT is a LOT of poop!!!!

Lets start with what are you feeding them? What are their ages and have they been spayed?

Also, as Buffie asked, how many trays do you have and what litter are you using?

Did the vet tell you what he thought your white girl had that required medication?

Also, welcome to the forum and we will do all that we can to assist.

EDIT: To add....

I have just re-read your post and you mentiong how dirty the cats cage was - please could you expand on that. Were the cats being kept in confined quarters? If so, THAT could be at the root of your problems...

Also, how long were the cats with this cousin?

Sorry, lots of questions I know but, the more info we have the better chance we've got of being able to help you.

You would not be the first person whose cats do not get on with Whiskas - it is not the best I'm afraid.

Have a read of this link - whilst some of the info may not be up-to-date, it is VERY informative regarding stuff that cats can and should not eat.

A-Z of wet food for cats

Many of us use a website called Zooplus and get our food ordered in from Europe because it is much better quality. The cost though, is no more than you would pay for Whiskas but the quality is 400% better.

The general rule of thumb is one tray per cat plus one extra. I have 4 for my 2 cats though.

As MoggyBaby has said, Whiskas really isn't the best food. Getting them onto a high quality, high meat content food could help a lot.

Re: my cat has been pooping everywhere for 2 weeks now. HELP!

thanks so much, moggybaby. reading your reply is a relief. asking around didn't help me that's why i decided to join pet forums.

the cats are 5 years old and have not been spayed. they have been together for 4 years now. that's why when i decided to rescue them, the previous owner asked me to get them both.

anyway, the vet asked me to give them anti bacterial for 10 days. on the 5th day, the female cat (Betchay) was already okay but the male blue persian (Botchok) started to poop liquid. i called the vet and asked me to add an amoebicide/ anti protozoal to his medications for 5 days. we are done with the medications now but like i said, Botchok's poop is still moist and soft. it's no longer liquid but he's not yet okay and he started pooping everywhere.

Botchok and Betchay have separate litter boxes but they tend to share.

i also have some issues with them fighting, but that can wait. this one first.

I know this isn't what you're on here asking but did you say they aren't spayed/neutered? Have they been used to produce kittens by any chance?
