boys dont normally have to be shaved lol, ahhh if he had one not desended I guess they would do, but normally the 2 balls are in the sack, they touch/feel them, and it takes less than 10 minutes to complete the operation to remove them a quick close up thats it!!

I know it is isnt it? The guy has been EN for about 20+years all over japan/america/austrailia, so he does them all hisself, I was recomended to him and then people who have got kittens from me use him to and he always has time to chat, I have spoke to other vets who say that its better but there practice wont do it, but they dont know why, so just seems odd to me!

Re: Early neutering - effect on development

I think it is a great idea for breeders to do this before the cat leaves them. Obviously it protects them from the danger of their kittens being bred from but it is so much easier for the new owner. I know breeders 'love' all their kittens, but they have a degree of professional detachment which new or nervous new owners do not have....this leaves far too much leeway or chance for a cat to breed.
I think all rescues should neuter before releasing kittens, surely this just makes sense?

Treaclesmum is on a distinguished road
Re: Early neutering - effect on development

One good thing about not doing it until 6 months is that their tummies are then big enough to eat a full dinner before 8pm, and not need to eat 'little and often' like young kittens do, therefore being less hungry the night before... a big advantage in the case of my Treacle, who is only just getting towards this stage!!

Re: Early neutering - effect on development

oops, just realised tnhat I did not actually answer the original question!
Monty was done at around 4.5-5 months ( I took him in so am uncertain as to his actual age ) As he came into a largish cat household I was anxious that he did not start to develop male characteristics and upset the delicate balance which I was lucky to have achieved. He is growing into a sturdy little man with a very sweet temperament.

Re: Early neutering - effect on development

I think I will make an appointment with the vet once Thomas has fully settled in to have a chat about this and get him booked in. He will be 16 weeks old this Sunday.
