Can't believe some people...

Just got home from food shopping with my mum. We were unloading the bags from the boot when she noticed two huge male moggies, walking across the road, one following the other. When the first spotted the second, they both stopped in the middle of the road, looking like they were about to fight eachother. Just at this moment, a car turned around the corner and came up the street. It was getting closer and closer to the cats (who were, it seemed, oblivious of the car, because they were sizing eachother up for a fight). The car didn't slow down. It must have seen them because my road is very wide and they were not small. It had it headlights on and you just don't miss cats that size, especially not two of them!

The cats THANKFULLY moved at the very last second, although the car missed one of their tails by LITTERALLY a few centimeters..... What b*stard thinks it's ok to run a cat over? ARGH! Some people have absolutely no thought for animals!

I know. They will probably tell it like something funny that happened to them. It's incredible.

Re: Can't believe some people...

Strikes me this is a good example of why owners should be held responsible for their animals and legally required to hold third party insurance. If that driver had swerved to avoid the cats and caused damage to property then who would they have claimed from when they got the bill?

Every cat killed or injured by a car is a tragedy but roads are built for vehicles and if drivers obey the speed limits then they are doing nothing wrong. Very few cats are hit by cars in their own houses or back gardens.

Re: Can't believe some people...

Unfortunately this is just one of the risks that outdoor cats have to deal with, especially if they are out after dark. This particular incident does appear to have been avoidable but often it is not the case, leaving drivers with little or no chance to avoid the cat.I would hate to have to live with the thought that I had caused the death of an animal,I just wish owners would take this into consideration when they open the door to let their beloved pet out.As havoc points out ,if a driver damages property ect swerving to avoid a cat who pays the bill.Dog owners are held responsible for accidents caused by their animals but cat owners are not,why ?

Re: Can't believe some people...

You would think the driver would slow down though, I hate to see animals on the roads, our road is on a roundabout where cats cross and sometimes we get cars speeding round the roundabout, one day there will be a bad accident whether an animal or a child is killed or injured.

I have had outdoor cats in the past but lost two when stray dogs came down the road and killed them and others disappeared never to be seen again, others injured and killed on the road.

All ours now are indoor cats.

Re: Can't believe some people...

its not hard to just stop or bib ur horn to scare the moggys away, u gotta have something wrong in ur brain to rather kill/seriously hurt a defenceless animal of any type rather than just stop for 3 seconds n shew them off, unless driving at high speed n its unsafe to stop/cud cause injury then u stop thats what brakes n seatbelts r for, n my daughters dad regually does emergancy stops for local moggys with no sence, i lost my first ever cat to a car wen i was 9 n the driver behind the 1 that hit my sooty said the man hit him n stopped to get out n all he did was check the bumper of his car for damage n drive off over sooty, the lady behind picked my cat up who was still slightly alive n in agony n she started knocking doors with sooty in her arms dying n i remember how hurt n upset i was, i used to have panic attacks if my mum let our other cat out, people dnt realise what a cat can mean to someone, i felt like id lost my whole world at 9yrs old!

Well he's wrong to do so I'm afraid and however much it may be seen as a 'nice' thing to do it isn't an emergency. In a worst case scenario it could cost him his license or even his liberty.

You should write for a newspaper!

Maybe the car didn't see the cats? We will never know.
