Smile Kitten covering own food!

Just wonders if anyone else's cat covers up its own leftover food??

When we put wet food down, Treacle often doesn't eat it immediately, or only has a few bites, so we often cover it with a tissue and leave it for a while to see if he will want any more.

Now however, he has taken to covering it over himself!! All we have to do is leave a clean piece of tissue down and he will drag it over the food!!!

I suppose they have to cover it in the wild, although obviously not with tissue...

Re: Kitten covering own food!

I had never seen a cat do this until I got Merson. It was quite a surprise. Oscar never does it and neither does Abby.

But guess what? McGee does!!!!!

So I now have two cats doing this after all these years of being a slave to them.

Re: Kitten covering own food!

If you give him a tissue, he will probably use it!!

Shows just how intelligent they are, they must watch us cover it with tissue and learn to copy, just like they copy from their mums!

Re: Kitten covering own food!

wow how clever... I wish my two girls would learn that trick... however they would need a huge piece of tissue as they get food all over the work top and it drives me mad....

I'll try... but I don't hold out any hope........

can yours wipe work tops down to?

Re: Kitten covering own food!

We just got two 5 month old kittens (Basil and Sybil) and Basil did exactly the same thing this morning! He started pawing the floor all around his dish and I thought he was having a funny turn ha ha

Re: Kitten covering own food!

Seb will paw the floor after he has finished eating even if there's food left or not I have only seen Frank do it once.

Re: Kitten covering own food!

Gizzy will scratch around her bowl after eating if there is some food left.
quite often i will find a couple of her toys in her left overs where she has tried to cover it

maybe i should try giving her a tissue!

Re: Kitten covering own food!

Lilly does this as well. Sometimes if shes having ocd moment, she'll go into the bathroom. Use a tray, covers it, drags her paw down the bath panel and piped in box sections, runs to the other tray, covers nothing in there then goes and does the same to her food, using either the floor or bringing thing down on the wall !!! Lord knows what she thinks she sees
